Job summary

General Atomics invites applications for a Material Planner in Rancho Bernardo, CA. Under general supervision, the role provides material planning support for research-related or production projects, including analysis, expediting, and purchasing, while advising management of work-in-progress status.

The position works with Purchasing, Contracts, Finance, and QA to compile data, maintains schedules, and ensures compliance with applicable laws and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Planning or related field; 3+ years in planning, scheduling, budgeting, performance measurement
  • May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education
  • Basic understanding of planning principles, theories and concepts.
  • Ability to understand accounting and manufacturing systems in a research or production environment; learn and apply planning tools and techniques
  • Knowledge of planning concepts to develop solutions to problems
  • Balance external and internal customer requirements
  • Strong organization to maintain workflow
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Proficient with computers and MS Word/Excel
  • Ability to work independently or in a team; willing to work extended hours
  • Willing to travel as required
  • Experience with SAP
  • Knowledge of inventory management
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills; mid-advanced Excel

Responsibilities

  • Observe laws, regulations, and safety procedures in all business activities
  • Other duties as assigned; 9x80 schedule with every other Friday off

Job Summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Material Planner to join our Material Management group located in Rancho Bernardo, CA. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for providing material planning support and administration for research-related or production projects of moderate scope, including analysis reporting, expediting, and purchasing. Advises management of the status of work in progress and identifies potential project problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Under close supervision, this position is responsible for assisting in the planning efforts by participating in scheduling, budgeting, performance monitoring, analysis, reporting, expediting, personnel planning and purchasing for either subtasks of a major research-related or production project or smaller independent projects under the guidance of experienced planning and/or project management personnel. Essential Functions
  • Provides planning administration to various tasks/projects including scheduling, budgeting, performance monitoring, analysis, reporting, expediting, personnel planning, purchasing and other duties as assigned.
  • Contributes to efficient operation of organization by modifying or developing short and long-range plans and schedules reports and providing progress follow-up and adjustment information.
  • Interfaces with operating and support groups (Purchasing, Contracts, Finance, QA) to collect data for preparation of schedules and reports.
  • Provides task leaders and project management with clear, timely and accurate information with which to make decisions. Alerts operating or project management to deviations (or potential deviations) from the established plan.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Additional Functions Other duties as assigned or required.
  • We operate on a 9x80 schedule with every other Friday off.

Job Qualifications
  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Planning, Engineering, Production Control or a related discipline and three or more years progressive experience in planning, scheduling, budgeting and performance measurement. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have a basic understanding of planning principles, theories and concepts as well as ability to understand accounting and manufacturing systems in a research or production environment and to learn and apply basic planning tools and techniques; and knowledge of concepts and principles of planning to develop solutions to a variety of problems.
  • Must maintain a well balanced focus between external and internal customer requirements and possess
  • Organization skills to maintain flow of work within the unit
  • Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to interface with internal employees and to accurately document, report and present
  • Ability to maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information; and
  • Knowledge of computer operations and applications and word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours to meet deadlines and increase probability of project success.
  • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self-initiated basis or in a team environment and able to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • Experience with SAP
  • Knowledge of inventory management
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, including mid-advanced Excel proficiency
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required

Salary range: 56,820 - 96,015
