Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Pulls orders from inventory and delivers production materials as needed.
  • Locates materials and supplies by following production orders.
  • Maintains in-process inventory at work centers and delivers/opens materials.
  • Documents materials and records units delivered and their locations.
  • Prepares finished stock for shipment by packing and loading.
  • Maintains material-handling equipment by performing pre-use inspections.
  • Operates forklifts, pallet jacks, and related machinery.
  • Keeps inventory, loading areas, and machinery clean and safe.
  • Receives and inspects incoming materials for quality and quantity.
  • Verifies inventory counts and investigates discrepancies.
  • Stores items in orderly warehouses and labeling areas.
  • Handles work orders, bills of lading, and shipping documents.
  • Maintains inventory transactions and performs cycle counts.
  • Assists with audits and inventory control as needed.
  • Reads and interprets work orders; learns other department functions.

Job description

The Material Handler is responsible for moving, storing, and managing various materials for transformers. They play a key role in the supply chain and logistics, ensuring that products are available to the team when needed and that shipments are on time and meet quality standards. Compliance with all safety requirements, product quality standards and company policies are essential functions of this role.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures orderly production and distribution of products by pulling orders from inventory, delivering production materials and supplies where needed, and staging finished product final distribution.
  • Locates materials and supplies by pulling and verifying materials and supplies listed on production orders.
  • Maintains in-process inventory at work centers by delivering and opening materials and supplies.
  • Documents materials and records units delivered and location of units.
  • Prepares finished stock for shipment by identifying, pulling, packing, crating, loading, and securing product.
  • Maintains material-handling equipment by completing pre-use inspections.
  • Operates forklifts, pallet jacks, and other machinery to move items, or signals machine operators to move materials.
  • Keeps inventory, loading areas, and machinery clean.
  • Receive and inspect incoming materials and products for quality, quantity, and accuracy of shipment.
  • Verify inventory computations by comparing them to physical counts of stock and investigate discrepancies or adjust errors.
  • Store items in an orderly and accessible manner in warehouses, tool rooms, supply rooms, or other areas.
  • Mark units with identification tags or other labeling equipment.
  • Handling documentation of work orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders to route materials.
  • Maintain inventory transactions and perform cycle counts to ensure accuracy of stock levels.
  • Assist with inventory control and audits as needed.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and orderly workstation.
  • Other assigned duties as needed.
  • Meet evaluation goals assigned by supervisor.
  • Ensure product quality meets company and client expectations.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders.
  • Ability to learn other department job functions and fill in as needed.
  • Complete company compliance and safety training when required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and work under pressure in a fast-paced work environment.
Qualifications
  • HS diploma/GED required.
  • Technical or Vocational school preferred.
  • Basic skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.
  • 1-3 years of transformer experience required.
  • 1-3 years of mechanical and/or electrical field experience required.
  • Material handling equipment experience (forklift, crane, etc.) preferred.
  • OSHA10 certified preferred.
  • Proven track record in safety excellence is required.
  • Adheres to all safety and environmental compliance regulations set by the organization. Notify management immediately of any safety concerns, hazardous conditions, or injuries.

  • Possess a strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, cooperative attitude, strong attention to detail and can work in a team environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift 50lbs floor to waist and waist to shoulder multiple times.
  • Standing and walking for long durations.
  • Bending, squatting, and kneeling multiple times for long durations.
  • The ability to climb up and down a ladder multiple times.
  • Balance and stand on a ladder with three points of contact for extended periods of time.
  • Comfortable working in the heat and cold due to manufacturing facilities not being climate controlled.
