Job summary

Veolia in North America is seeking a Hazardous Materials Technician to perform hazard determination, sampling, consolidation, packaging and spill response while ensuring compliance with federal regulations and Veolia policies. You will contribute to safe handling and coordination of hazardous waste within a facility setting.

The role requires a 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and a valid driver’s license, with a focus on teamwork, safety, and meticulous operational discipline.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related science preferred.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Sample waste streams according to prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Manually open, unpack, and consolidate containers of hazardous materials.
  • Test, consolidate, and provide spill clean‑up response and remedial activities, labeling, loading, off loading, and logistics coordination for hazardous materials in a facility setting.
  • Assist in the loading/unloading of hazardous waste materials at fixed facility sites utilizing equipment such as drum dollies and forklifts to ensure safe transfer of waste.
  • Comply with all health, safety, and procedures in accordance with VES‑TS policies.
  • Become familiar with U.S. DOT/EPA and VES‑TS regulations.
  • Operate and maintain all equipment to ensure efficiency.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Description

Position Purpose:

This position provides specialized hazard determination and consolidation of chemical waste materials.
Responsibilities include testing, consolidation, packaging, spill response, labeling, loading/unloading, coordinating transportation, and sampling/profiling material while adhering to state and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.

Primary Duties /Responsibilities:

  • Sample waste streams according to prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Manually open, unpack, and consolidate containers of hazardous materials.
  • Test, consolidate, and provide spill clean‑up response and remedial activities, labeling, loading, off loading, and logistics coordination for hazardous materials in a facility setting.
  • Assist in the loading/unloading of hazardous waste materials at fixed facility sites utilizing appropriate equipment such as drum dollies, forklifts, etc. to ensure transfer of waste in a safe and timely manner.
  • Comply and enforce all compliance, health, safety, and procedures in accordance with VES‑TS policies.
  • Become familiar with all U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT)/Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and VES‑TS regulations.
  • Operate and maintain all equipment in a professional manner to ensure optimum efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related science discipline preferred

  • Strong team player

  • Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines
