Job description

Overview

Material Handler - Warehouse Operations role at Labcorp.

Location: Madison, WI. Shift: Monday through Friday. Hours: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. Overtime and weekend work as needed.

Position involves receiving, distributing, storing, dispensing, inventory control and/or shipping of samples, supplies, controlled substances, mail and/or other materials to meet company standards of quality, customer service, safety, and productivity.

Responsibilities and duties
  • Performs duties related to receiving, distributing, storing, dispensing, inventory control and/or shipping in a safe and efficient manner, following Purchase orders, P-Card or other internal instructions and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Loads and unloads freight; operates material handling equipment safely and ensures equipment is available and in safe working condition.
  • Verifies contents of material received under purchase orders.
  • Reports shortages, damages, and incorrect shipments on appropriate forms and to designated personnel.
  • Uses internal computer systems to enter purchase orders, samples and inventory receipts; prints appropriate paperwork; prepares logs for P-Card, Internet orders and freight receipts; enters requisitions for items based on inventory.
  • Delivers materials or samples to proper locations.
  • Ensures proper rotation and organization of stock; participates in physical inventories; traces problems related to discrepancies and works with Buyer/RCPs to resolve.
  • Confirms internal stock requisitions; picks requested items ensuring correct quantities and types are delivered.
  • Maintains a clean, neat and orderly work area; assists in maintaining warehouse security; complies with OSHA and MSDS standards.
  • Performs mail room duties (e.g., prepares manifests for local delivery service, processes bulk mailings, sorts and delivers internal mail, weighs and prepares outgoing mail, operates postal meter).
  • Assists with preparing documents and shipments (including dangerous goods); applies shipping permits as needed.
  • Maintains records in areas of responsibility (receiving, shipping, picking, mail, controlled substances) and forwards to designated personnel as specified.
  • Provides information to internal customers about departmental policies and SOPs.
  • Understands cost factors and suggests cost-effective alternatives.
  • Works closely with internal personnel to maintain understanding of controlled substance handling and ensures compliance with legal, regulatory and company requirements.
  • Manages time and tasks independently with minimal supervision; recognizes unusual situations and acts or notifies supervisor as appropriate.
  • Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds routinely.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • 1-3 years of continuous work history with receiving and customer service experience in a distribution or warehouse environment
  • Past training and experience operating forklifts, order pickers and pallet jacks
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using barcode/inventory control tracking equipment
  • DOT/IATA training certification (preferred)
  • Experience in spreadsheet development (preferred)
Skills and Competencies

  • Adaptable to changing duties; follows SOPs but can problem solve as required

Casual, PRN & Part Time employees regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours are eligible to participate in the 401(k) Plan only.
