Responsibilities
The Material Handler reports to the Logistics Manager
Responsibilities:
- Move and stage work in process, completed products, and raw materials within the shipping and receiving department.
- Move and stage work in process, completed products, and raw materials within the printing and converting departments.
- Handle, process, and dispose of scrap materials within the Printing and Converting Departments.
- Operate a forklift safely and efficiently.
- Organize all products, raw materials, and remove scrap in and around the production area.
- Complete all required paperwork accurately.
- Report maintenance issues, quality concerns, housekeeping, safety, or production issues to the supervisor immediately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Mechanical aptitude.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules and other documents.
- Must pass an eye exam to distinguish color tones.
- Capable of understanding and executing oral and written instructions; request clarification when needed.
- Effective communication skills with co-workers, supervisors, and others.
- Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
- Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure.
Essential Physical Requirements
- Ability to keep up with moderate-speed production machines.
- Manual dexterity with exposure to arm, wrist, and back fatigue.
- Frequent use of arms, hands, and fingers to handle, grasp, hold, and squeeze.
- Ability to bend, lift up to 50 pounds, pull, drag sheets, and organize products.
- Stand for approximately 4 hours and walk frequently in the production area.
- Routine stretching and reaching to reprocess discarded plastic.
- Climb stairs, operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other lifting equipment.
Work Environment
This position requires the employee to:
- Work around moving mechanical parts.
- Operate in a noise environment that is moderate to very loud.
- Work effectively in a team environment.
- Adapt to temperature variances, including extreme heat and cold.
Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Up to 24 months of related experience/training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
