Job summary

Crane Aerospace & Electronics in Burbank, CA, is seeking a Materials Handler I/II to receive, move, stock, and issue production parts to meet on-time delivery. This temp/contract role supports multiple value streams on the production floor and works with supervisors and buyers to resolve discrepancies.

The ideal candidate will have 3–6 years of manufacturing experience, basic math skills, and proficiency with MS Office, with a strong focus on accuracy and safety. Training provided.

Qualifications

  • 3-6 years of relevant manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and lean principles.
  • Ability to follow and interpret detailed work instructions and standard work.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate inventory control by following established work instructions and processes.
  • Complete the cycle count process for Value Stream; Escalate variances in counts as needed.
  • Perform root cause investigation on variances in cycle counts.
  • Move materials to and from receiving, production areas and shipping by hand or with carts/equipment.
  • Rectify problems with supervisors/buyers regarding damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications.
  • Unpack, receive, stock materials into storeroom locations; pack and ship per contract requirements.
  • Read work orders to determine material and equipment needs for production cell work.
  • Issue critical materials to production cells.
  • Assist with training new employees and cross-training other material associates.
  • Support more than one value stream as needed.

Job Summary:

The Material Handler I/II is responsible for receiving, moving, storing, counting, tracking, issuing, andshipping a variety of production parts, materials, and supplies. The production floor relies on thisposition to provide the right parts and materials at the right time to meet on-time-delivery goals.

Essential Functions:
  • Maintain accurate inventory control by following established work instructions and processes.
  • Complete the cycle count process for Value Stream; Escalate variances in counts as needed
  • Perform root cause investigation on variances in cycle counts
  • Move materials to and from receiving, production areas and shipping by hand, using sorting bins and carts, or other equipment
  • Consult with others (i.e., supervisors, buyer planners, etc.) to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications
  • Unpack, receive, and stock materials into storeroom location(s); Pack and ship materials in accordance with contract requirements
  • Read work orders to determine material and equipment needs for production cell work
  • Issue critical materials to production cells
  • Respond to unplanned issues with internal customers in a timely manner
  • Aid and/or Backfill coworkers, as needed to complete daily tasks
  • Change part stocking methods to better facilitate production needs
  • Ensure compliance with export compliance rules
  • Assist with training new employees and cross training other materials associates
  • Capable of supporting more than one value stream
  • Any other task assigned by supervisor or management
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience: 3-6 years of relevant manufacturing experience; Previous experience workingwith manufacturing software tools
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, andother techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods; Familiarwith lean principles; Understanding of continuous improvement tools
  • Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated outstanding manual dexterity; Demonstrated ability toconcentrate on repetitive tasks; Demonstrated ability to accurately follow detailed workinstructions; Demonstrated ability to understand standard work instructions; Demonstrated ability to solve routine problems; Math skills to perform basic calculations; Outstanding verbalcommunication skills; Proficient with MS Office
  • Education/Certification: High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledgeable in the use of Microscopes

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment
  • Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limitedto: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any otherrequired PPE
  • May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures,confined spaces, dust or fumes
  • Standing: 50-75% *percentage is approximate and may vary depending on work task

Salary Range:
  • Material Handler I - $22.90/hr. - $28.22/hr.
  • Material Handler II - $25.18/hr. - $31.59/hr.

Several factors contribute to actual salary, including experience in a similar role or performing comparable job responsibilities, skills, training, and other qualifications. Some roles may be eligible for participation in performance-based bonus programs.
