Material Handler - Starting Pay $21.83/Hour | Primient

About the role

The Material Handler role at the Loudon Plant Barge Terminal is an operator level position reporting to the Barge Terminal Area Manager. Responsibilities include loading and unloading trucks, rails, and barges safely and efficiently. The role involves operating heavy equipment, basic maintenance, and troubleshooting. This position requires a 12-hour rotating shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Main accountabilities
  1. Load and unload barges, trucks, and rail cars.
  2. Perform deckhand duties on barges safely.
  3. Operate corn-unloading systems, including sampling and documentation, and operate heavy equipment such as hitachi, bobcat, front-end loader, clam shell, and skid steer loader.
  4. Participate in safety training, meetings, audits, and report incidents immediately.
  5. Complete safety initiatives and create JSA and SOPs.
  6. Issue permits, know emergency routes, storm shelters, and USCG Mar Sec levels.
  7. Understand area goals, policies, and procedures. Work flexible hours, including night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  8. Troubleshoot equipment, communicate issues, and maintain safety and GMP standards.
  9. Provide clear shift handovers, complete documentation, and perform barge prep and knot tying.
  10. Report inventory and railcar offloading, and perform other physical duties as needed.
Safety Accountabilities
  • Support a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Adhere to Life Saving Principles and STOP WORK procedures.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical equipment operation experience preferred.
  • Basic math, reading, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work a 12-hour rotating shift including nights, weekends, and holidays.
