Job summary

Veolia North America is seeking a Waste Technician to support hazardous and non-hazardous waste handling within a fast-paced processing area. The shift is Monday to Friday, Noon to 8:40 p.m., with emphasis on safety, PPE compliance, and daily documentation.

Responsibilities include loading/unloading containers, operating equipment, inspections, and maintaining a clean work environment while adhering to disposal guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• 9–12 months general labor experience.
• Forklift experience preferred.

Job Description

The shift is from Monday to Friday Noon to 8:40 p.m.

Position Purpose

Responsible for performing a variety of routine hazardous and non-hazardous waste tasks in the movement and processing of various waste in various container size/type. Tasks could include: Follow procedures & direction, perform manual labor, proper usage of PPE, operate mobile equipment (manual and powered), operate fixed / stationary equipment, loading & unloading containers, perform equipment inspections, identification of various container size/type, scanning container movements, consolidation of containers & material, staging containers in designated area, recognize markings & labels. Tasks will be performed on a daily basis in the designated processing area as assigned by Leads & Supervisors in order to meet processing objectives for material disposal.

Primary Duties /Responsibilities

• Recognize various container size & type
• Recognize labels & markings
• Understand and follow procedures & processes
• Ability to utilize systems to create processing paperwork or labels
• Load and unload various size containers (totes, drums, tankers, trailers. etc.) using mechanical or manual means
• Construct boxes and/or fiber containers and stacks, labels, and loads containers.
• Use a variety of tools such as impact wrenches, shovels, jackhammers, etc.
• Transport hazardous waste materials from storage facilities within the facility as directed.
• Decontaminate and dispose of empty drums and/or containers according to RCRA and disposal guidelines.
• Assist in completing all necessary paperwork for processing materials to include transportation of materials to and from various locations.
• Perform general housekeeping duties
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area
• Inspection material handling equipment as directed
• Assist in the loading/unloading of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials at designated sites utilizing appropriate equipment for which you are appropriately trained
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED equivalent
• 9 to 12 months general labor experience
• Forklift experience preferred

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

• Ability to communicate through reading and writing
• Trained in the use of material handling equipment

Required Certification / Licenses / Training

• 40-Hour HAZWOPER trained a plus

Physical Requirements

• Must be okay with working in the elements.
