Job summary

Veolia in Azusa, CA seeks a Waste Handler to perform routine hazardous and non-hazardous waste tasks, move containers, inspect equipment, and prepare processing paperwork while following procedures and using PPE daily. Requirements include a High School diploma, 9–12 months of general labor experience (forklift preferred), and good reading/writing skills.

Pay ranges from $21 to $22 per hour, with robust benefits such as PTO, health/dental/vision, life insurance, a 401(k) plan and tuition

Job description

Position Purpose:

Responsible for performing a variety of routine hazardous and non-hazardous waste tasks in the movement and processing of various waste in various container size/type. Tasks could include: Follow procedures & direction, perform manual labor, proper usage of PPE, operate mobile equipment (manual and powered), operate fixed / stationary equipment, loading & unloading containers, perform equipment inspections, identification of various container size/type, scanning container movements, consolidation of containers & material, staging containers in designated area, recognize markings & labels. Tasks will be performed on a daily basis in the designated processing area as assigned by Leads & Supervisors in order to meet processing objectives for material disposal.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

Has mastered all four components (CSB/ADA, TRB, Bulk Ramp and TSDF) and can work in any area while maintaining operational efficiency. Requires minimal direct supervision. Understand and follow procedures & processes. Recognize various container size & type. Recognize labels & markings. Understand and follow procedures & processes. Ability to utilize systems to create processing paperwork or labels. Load and unload various size containers (totes, drums, tankers, trailers. etc.) using mechanical or manual means. Construct boxes and/or fiber containers and stacks, labels, and loads containers. Use a variety of tools such as impact wrenches, shovels, jackhammers, etc. Transport hazardous waste materials from storage facilities within the facility as directed. Decontaminate and dispose of empty drums and/or containers according to RCRA and disposal guidelines. Assist in completing all necessary paperwork for processing materials to include transportation of materials to and from various locations. Perform general housekeeping duties. Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area. Inspection material handling equipment as directed. Assist in the loading/unloading of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials at designated sites utilizing appropriate equipment for which you are appropriately trained. Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience/Background:

High School Diploma/GED is required. 9 to 12 months general labor experience. Forklift experience preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to communicate through reading and writing. Trained in the use of material handling equipment.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

40-Hour HAZWOPER training preferred.

Pay Range:

$21.00 to $22.00 per hour.
