Description
The function of a Material Handler I is to process parts through the organization both physically and through the WMS system of record. Material Handlers handle a variety of materials and products. Operates forklifts, pallet jacks, and other machinery to move items, or signals machine operators to move materials onto and off trucks and loading docks. Keeps inventory, loading areas, and machinery clean.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Use hand truck, dollies or pallet jack equipment to move material or freight in the warehouse-storage facility.
- Support two-man/yard jobs.
- Unload inbound merchandise or products.
- Load outbound merchandise or products.
- Weigh merchandise or products, get measurements (DIMS).
- Receive, unpack, check, and verify merchandise or products for accuracy.
- Handle Receiving Exceptions as needed.
- Use handheld RF tools to receive merchandise or products into WMS.
- Conduct stock checks, part number verification, cycle counts, and support physical inventory.
- Consolidate loads as required.
- Pack, re-pack, & wrap products for shipping.
- Consolidate partial pallets into full pallets for location/inventory consolidation.
- Label parts during put away, picking, or shipping.
- Pick parts for order fulfillment, shipments, scrap requests, etc.
- Pack & shrink wrap orders or outgoing shipments.
- Strap pallets or boxes as needed.
- Stage completed orders or shipments to staging area.
- Ensure proper delivery documents accompany orders: Revised BOL, Packing slip, Manual tag, etc.
- Report OSD (Overages, shortages & damage) to supervisor promptly.
- Ensure compliance with all policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Complete paperwork thoroughly and promptly.
- Perform housekeeping tasks to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Assist other team members as needed.
- Cross-train to learn other warehouse functions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills Needed
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-2 years warehouse and logistics experience.
- Forklift certification with 1-2 years forklift experience.
- Customer and quality focused.
- LEAN understanding, capable of executing 5S and 7S.
- Good communication skills.
- Understanding of logistics, shipping, receiving, and work instruction protocols.
- Strong math and writing skills.
- Detail-oriented.
- Ability to work independently.
- High accuracy.
- Assertive with ability to handle high volume and demand.
- Basic computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Knowledge of inventory control.
- Excellent time management.
