Job summary

Goodwill Southwest Florida is seeking a dependable Material Handler I to support movement, sorting, and handling of donated materials at our Punta Gorda processing facility. You will load, unload, and organize items while following Kaizen guidelines to ensure accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced environment.

The role requires the ability to lift up to 40 pounds, operate equipment as trained, and maintain a safe, organized workspace.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1–2 years of warehouse operations experience.
  • forklift experience preferred.
  • Microsoft Office applications (Excel/Word) familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Move, load, and unload raw donated materials, salvage commodities, trash, equipment, and fixtures following designated locations within the plant.
  • Follow Kaizen guidelines and 5-minute drills to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist in salvage sorting operations and cross-train for other plant roles.
  • Provide courteous service to stores, administrative teams, vendors, and donors while maintaining a safe, organized work environment.

Job Title: Material Handler I

Location: 3415 S Tamiami Trl, Punta Gorda, FL 33950

Employment Type: Full-Time / Hourly

Goodwill Southwest Florida is seeking a dependable Material Handler I to support the movement, sorting, and handling of donated materials within our processing plant. This role is essential in ensuring raw donations, salvage commodities, equipment, and other materials are safely and efficiently transported, loaded, and organized according to Kaizen guidelines. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment, able to operate equipment as trained, and committed to supporting smooth plant operations that advance Goodwill's mission in the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Move, load, and unload raw donated materials, salvage commodities, trash, equipment, and fixtures, ensuring all items are placed in their designated locations within the plant.
  • Follow Kaizen guidelines and 5-minute drills to maintain accuracy, efficiency, and compliance throughout all material-handling processes.
  • Assist in salvage sorting operations and cross-train to support additional plant roles as needed.
  • Provide professional and courteous service to stores, administrative teams, vendors, and donors while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of one to two years of experience in warehouse operations.
  • One to two years of experience loading 53', 48' containers and box trucks.
  • One year supervisory experience.
  • Previous forklift experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel and Word).
  • Capable of seeing and recognizing colors.
  • Ability to stoop, reach, twist, lift, push, pull and move items; lift and carry a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Comfortable with standing for long periods of time and the possibility of occasionally working where temperatures and climate can fluctuate.
