Job summary

TOPPAN Packaging Americas in DeKalb, IL is seeking a Material Handler I to support warehouse, shipping, receiving, production, and inventory operations. You will safely operate forklifts and material handling equipment to move materials, ensure accurate receiving, storage, staging, and shipping while keeping a safe, organized warehouse.

This role reports to the Warehouse Lead and involves preparing customer orders, verifying quantities, labeling, scheduling carrier pickups, and updating ERP

Qualifications

  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
  • Warehouse experience preferred.
  • Experience operating Toyota sit-down LP forklifts.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Familiar with FedEx and UPS shipping procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail in a high-volume environment.
  • Able to pass forklift written and driving evaluations and have a valid driver's license.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and more than 50 pounds occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare customer orders for shipment according to procedures and requirements.
  • Verify product quantities, item numbers, labels, packaging, and shipping docs before shipment.
  • Print, review, and attach shipping labels, packing slips, bills of lading, and paperwork.
  • Coordinate carrier pickups with freight companies.
  • Stage, organize, and load outbound shipments at dock areas.
  • Update shipment status and inventory records in ERP systems.
  • Move raw materials, finished goods, and supplies throughout the facility.
  • Supply production lines and work areas with correct materials.
  • Load and unload trucks, pallets, and containers safely.
  • Stage materials for production, shipping, receiving, and QA inspection.
  • Verify item numbers, lot numbers, quantities, labels, and product condition.

Position: Material Handler I

Location: DeKalb, IL

Shift: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

Pay Rate: $20.41/hour

Summary Description

The Material Handler I plays a key role in supporting warehouse, shipping, receiving, production, and inventory operations. Reporting to the Warehouse Lead, this position is responsible for safely operating forklifts and other material handling equipment to move raw materials, finished goods, and supplies throughout the facility. This role ensures materials are accurately received, stored, staged, and shipped while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient warehouse environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Prepare customer orders for shipment according to company procedures and customer requirements.
  • Verify product quantities, item numbers, labels, packaging, and shipping documentation before shipment.
  • Print, review, and attach shipping labels, packing slips, bills of lading, and other required paperwork.
  • Schedule or coordinate carrier pickups with freight companies and transportation providers.
  • Stage, organize, and load outbound shipments in designated dock and carrier locations.
  • Update shipment status, tracking information, and inventory records within warehouse or ERP systems.
  • Move raw materials, finished goods, packaging supplies, and inventory throughout the facility.
  • Supply production lines and work areas with the correct materials to support manufacturing operations.
  • Load and unload trucks, trailers, pallets, carts, and containers safely and efficiently.
  • Stage materials for production, shipping, receiving, and quality inspection.
  • Verify item numbers, lot numbers, quantities, labels, and product condition before storage or movement.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Record inventory movements, transfers, receipts, and location changes accurately.
  • Assist with cycle counts, inventory reconciliation, and warehouse audits.
  • Support receiving by transporting incoming materials to inspection, staging, or storage locations.
  • Support production by delivering materials and removing finished goods or excess materials.
  • Maintain organized warehouse aisles, racks, dock areas, and shipping locations.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • You are able to speak, read, and write English.
  • You have warehouse experience (preferred).
  • You have experience operating Toyota sit-down LP forklifts.
  • You have experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and customer shipping portals.
  • You have experience with FedEx and UPS shipping procedures.
  • You understand work orders, inventory control processes, receiving documents, and shipping documentation.
  • You have strong attention to detail and can work accurately in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • You can safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, scales, and other warehouse equipment.
  • You can successfully pass both the forklift written and driving evaluations and possess a valid driver\'s license.
  • You are dependable, punctual, and safety-focused.
  • You are able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and more than 50 pounds occasionally.
  • You are comfortable sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods throughout your shift.
