Job summary

CRH, a leading cement manufacturer, seeks a Material Handler/Heavy Equipment Operator to support our 12-hour shift operations at the cement plant. You will operate front-end loaders, dump trucks, forklifts and other heavy equipment to move raw materials and assist in distribution across the plant.

Connecting with safety-first practices, you will perform pre-shift checks, assist on projects, and help maintain dust control while contributing to efficient production and reliability.

Qualifications

  • High school graduation or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum of one year of related mobile/heavy equipment operation experience.
  • Ability to operate trucks, dump trucks, bobcats, loaders, forklifts and other heavy equipment safely.
  • Ability to estimate stockpile volumes.
  • Stamina and flexibility to maintain a steady work pace.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Operate front-end loader on barges to off-load raw materials and manage loading/unloading.
  • Transport raw materials and finished items with heavy equipment within the plant.
  • Inspect barge equipment and material conveying systems; maintain dust control and cleaning routines.
  • Perform pre-shift checks and basic maintenance; ensure proper lubrication and safety.
  • Assist with construction, cleanup, and other production tasks as needed.

Rotating 12-hour Shifts. 4 on / 4 off. Swing from days to nights every month.

Wage Scale

$36.96- $42.36 w/ potential for overtime

What You'll Be Contributing
  • Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
  • Operates front-end loader on barges for the purpose of off-loading raw materials. This includes but, is not limited to, loading of equipment onto the barge, the complete material removal process, and the unloading of equipment of the barge.
  • Operates a dump truck, forklift, man-lift, and heavy equipment to transport raw materials, clinker, and other items within the confines of the plant.
  • Attends to security of barge, barge support equipment inspection, and inspection and maintenance of material conveying systems as required.
  • Operate sweeper and water truck to maintain dust control.
  • Performs pre-shift inspections on heavy equipment for proper operation of equipment parts and performs preventive maintenance. Maintains proper oil levels, replacement of air filters, and other minor parts. Maintains appropriate equipment lubrication levels, and cleans equipment ensuring proper safety, and operation.
  • Assists as needed on construction projects, general cleanup, and/or assisting in production operations as needed.
  • Assists in unloading rail cars, as needed.
  • Follow appropriate standard operating procedures as guidelines for operating and maintaining vehicle
  • Assists in other departments, as needed for vacation and other relief.
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
ISO 14001 TRAINING PLAN

The Material Handler must become familiar with and participate in initial and annual training for ISO 14001.

To Succeed In This Position, You Will Need
  • High school graduation or equivalent is required
  • Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
  • Willingness to learn, training will be provided
  • Minimum of one year of related mobile/heavy equipment operation experience required.
  • Ability to operate trucks, dump trucks, bobcats, various sizes of heavy capacity loaders, forklifts, and other related heavy equipment in a safe manner.
  • Ability to operate a shovel, wheelbarrow, jackhammer, weed eater, hand and power tools, hoists, compressors, and other specialized tools.
  • Ability to estimate stockpile volumes.
  • Stamina and flexibility to maintain a steady work pace.
  • Working requires walking, climbing, bending, gripping/grasping controls, twisting, pushing, pulling, working in an awkward position, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Ability to work at heights up to 250 feet
What To Expect In a Cement Environment

Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
