Job summary

Valmont Industries, Inc. is seeking a Material Handler 2 at its Petersburg, VA site. This role loads, unloads, and stores incoming product, inspects finished goods, and ensures proper tagging and data entry.

You will operate forklifts and pallet jacks, move steel and heavy material, and assist in other departments as needed to support safe, efficient plant operations. The position requires reading shipping papers, basic math, and a strong emphasis on safety.

Qualifications

• No degree required; basic craftsmanship and safety is expected.
• 0–1 year of relevant material handling experience.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
• Ability to read tags, bills of lading, and shipping papers.
• Forklift certification may be obtained after hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklifts to move material up to 35,000 lbs on trailers or trucks.
• Inspect incoming material for venting, holes, and attachments; reject nonconforming items.
• Identify defects and coordinate special handling as needed.
• Read and follow shipping documents; communicate needs to site leadership.
• Cross-train in other departments and assist with general operations.
