Position Summary:
The Material Handler - Customer Load-Out is responsible for loading customer orders and offloading products from vendors. This role requires safe handling of heavy and sometimes irregular-shaped materials using forklifts. The ideal candidate ensures order accuracy, product integrity, and provides professional service to walk-in and will-call customers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Greet and assist customers during vehicle load-out in a professional and efficient manner.
• Review and verify shipping documents or pick tickets before selecting and loading materials.
• Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and rigging equipment to safely move and load heavy metal products.
• Identify and inspect materials for size, quantity, and damage prior to loading.
• Use chains, slings, and spreader bars appropriately to prevent material damage and ensure safe lifting.
• Secure loads properly to prevent shifting or damage during customer transport.
• Communicate discrepancies or special requests to the shipping or sales team.
• Maintain a clean and organized yard, including stacking and staging metal materials.
• Follow all safety procedures, including PPE use, equipment inspection, and load restraint practices.
• Assist in general warehouse operations as needed.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1+ year of experience in a warehouse, metal yard, or similar industrial environment.
• Forklift and overhead crane operation experience required (certification preferred).
• Ability to read tape measures, calipers, and interpret material specs.
• Capable of lifting up to 75 lbs. and working in outdoor or indoor warehouse settings.
• Familiarity with structural and flat-rolled metal products is a strong plus.
• Strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and customer service.
• Spanish speaking individual highly desired.
Working Conditions:
• Frequent exposure to sharp edges, hot or cold weather, and heavy lifting.
• Extended periods of standing, walking, bending, and operating heavy equipment.
• Exposure to weather conditions.
• Must wear appropriate PPE including steel-toe boots, gloves, and safety glasses
• May require occasional overtime or weekend shifts based on customer demand.

This job operates in an industrial manufacturing environment exposure to varying temperatures, loud noise levels, dust, fumes, oil, or other outdoor elements. This role requires regular standing, walking and sitting for extended periods of time. Climbing stairs/ladders, squatting, sitting, operating machinery and may require lifting up to 50lbs, and must be able to wear PPE as required. This is a full-time position and may require some overtime including nights and weekend work.
