Job summary

Otis is seeking a Material Handler to support the production line by picking parts, filling carts, and printing pick tickets using the MTS/DSI system. You will ensure accurate inventory moves, close pick lists, and assist in 5S activities.

The role requires basic reading/writing, math, and strong attention to detail, with experience in warehouse environments and familiarity with DSI/JDE systems. 3rd shift hours apply.

Qualifications

Job description

Responsibility Overview

The responsibility of the Material Handler is to pick parts and fill the carts according to the provided pick list. The Material Handler will print pick tickets using the MTS/DSI system and fill the carts accordingly to support the production line. The Material Handler will complete accurate transactions for all inventory moves and close all pick lists. The Material Handler will assist in the warehouse as required. The Material Handler will also be required to complete 5’s assignments, enter turnback’s, identify part shortages, cycle count, and complete other functions/tasks as assigned by the Supervisor. The Material Handler will participate in daily toolbox meetings and ensure shop floor management elements such as Tier 1, QCPC, 5S, Material Review Board (MRB) and other job duties assigned.

Shift: 3rd Shift Hours: 7:30PM-6:00AM (Sun-Thurs & additional days as needed)

Essential Responsibilities
  • Accurately fill the kit carts by printing and following the appropriate pick list.
  • Complete all inventory transactions associated with the picklist and point of use parts using the DSI scanner.
  • Close all pick list immediately after kitting.
  • Complete all put away and restock bins in the designated area within 24 hours of receipt of product.
  • Identify all material shortages or low stock items and report them to the supervisor.
  • Cycle Count assigned locations and report any discrepancy to the supervisor.
  • Complete 5’s and housekeeping assignments.
  • Participate in required Level I OJT and cross-training on Level II Material Handler.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned by supervisor or manager.
Critical Skills
  • Basic reading, writing, and math ability.
  • Knowledge of computer applications and use of product documents to ensure product compliance.
  • Effective communication skills to drive improvement in defect prevention and flexibility to foster learning all Level 1 and 2 products/stations and cell configurations.
  • Ability to train others in product configurations to drive cross-training and knowledge transfer.
  • Material Handling Practices- Knowledge of proper material storage and Kanban systems.
  • DSI- Working knowledge of the main scripts for the Supermarket operations.
  • Warehousing- Ability to cycle count, complete inventory transfers, store product by line and location, and kit according to picklist. Must have a basic understanding of the Kanban process.
  • Public Safety and Security - Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Mechanical - Knowledge of machines and tools (Banding machine, strap, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Operation and Control - Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
Minimum Education

High school diploma or GED.

Minimum Experience

0-1 years of PIV Operation, Warehouse experience, Shipping and Receiving experience.

Preferred Experience

1 year warehouse experience in a pick/pack operation, 1 years’ experience with warehouse management systems (DSI/JDE).

Physical Demands

Must be able to lift 35 lbs. Must be able to stand up to 10 hours a day. Walking, balancing, climbing, standing, twisting/turning, bending/stooping, crawling, crouching, kneeling/squatting, sitting, reaching above shoulder height, reaching forward, lifting (maximum 50 pounds), carrying, pushing/pulling, handling, feeling, digital dexterity, wrist flexion/extension, power grip, working speed, talking, hearing, seeing (with color vision) depth perception. Must be able to wear/use the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment. Mental requirements include, but are not limited to, the ability to concentrate, take initiative, and to cope with stress, and repetitive tasks and be able to self-inspect and take responsibility for quality of own work. Working at heights of 24 feet may be required. Must be able to operate Stand-up/Sit-down Forklifts Must be able to operate Order Picker/Joe/Wave Powered units.
