Job summary

RR Donnelley & Sons is seeking a night-shift material handler/press helper to support the printing department. The role operates on a fixed 12-hour night schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and alternating Thursdays, with a $2 per hour shift differential.

You will move, stack, and inspect printed materials, load and unload on pallets, and assist with make-ready activities while ensuring accuracy in counts and labeling.

Qualifications

• Stock, move, jog, unload and rotate items per instructions.
• Record counts and quantities on production sheets.
• Understand labeling and storage procedures.
• General warehouse knowledge and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Remove, flex, jog, and stack printed sheets, folded signatures, labels or other in-process product from discharge unit of printing press or adhesive coating equipment.
• Review signatures for smearing, register issues, bad folds, etc. and notify the Pressroom.
• Remove folded signatures from web press and place signatures on pallet or skid for removal to warehouse or binding areas.
• May adjust stacking mechanism on press according to paper dimensions. Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, carts and trays.
• Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area, using hand truck, electric dolly, or other device.
• Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
• Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
• Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together, using banding machine and clincher.
• May use automated equipment and/or operate industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
• May assist Press Crew with make-ready of the equipment such as retrieving plates, hanging plates, recycling/storing plates etc.
• May perform in process quality checks of printed materials looking for blemishes, scratches or other print defects

Qualifications

• Able to stock, move, jog, arrange, unload, count and rotate items on/off printing press equipment in accordance with operating instructions or under guidance of a press operator or supervisor
• May require knowledge of operation of automatic counters and tabulate counts for jobs
• Able to complete appropriate forms relating to stock description, quantity, unit of issue, and the labeling requirements for incoming and outgoing materials
• Good knowledge of general warehouse layout, item identification codes, basic warehouse procedures, and the storage areas in order to be able to place or pull paper stock, signatures and materials in accordance with standard procedures
• Good skill in the use of manual dollies, carts or hand trucks and hand tools used in material handling tasks such as hammers, pliers, strapping and stretch wrapping tools and equipment, tape fasteners, metal band sheers and related equipment

The pay range for this role at the noted location is $16.32 to $20.71 per hour. The actual rate of pay offered may vary based upon, but not limited to: education, skills, experience, proficiency, performance, shift, and location. In addition to base salary, depending on the role, the total compensation package may also include overtime, shift differential, call-in, and stand-by pay.
