Job summary

Iceberg Enterprises is seeking a dedicated Material Handler for our Sturgis, MI facility. The role involves manual labor in a high-volume plastics manufacturing environment, handling material verification, movement, and color-change processes.

Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety are essential. The position requires a High School Diploma or GED and 6 months to 1 year of related experience; bilingual Spanish/English is highly desirable.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Credentials required.
  • 6 months to 1 year of direct experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably in plastics, is required.
  • Lean manufacturing principles familiarity is highly desired.
  • ERP/MRP systems familiarity is highly desired.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is highly desired.
  • Basic reading and communication skills in English are required.
  • Basic math skills and the ability to count are required.
  • Experience using hand and power tools is highly desired.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking ability is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Verify correct materials and components are used (calcium, colorant, regrind, virgin material).
  • Move materials in and out to maintain press uptime.
  • Handle color changes and cleaning of systems, drains, hoppers, filters, and blenders.
  • Monitor material flow and labeling; ensure proper storage back into inventory.
  • Assist with breaks and general housekeeping in grinder and mechanical rooms.
  • Manage propane storage and fills; monitor grinders for purge and scrap.
  • Ensure accurate batch sizes and calibration to avoid overfill; maintain clean areas around presses.
  • Regular attendance and adherence to shift schedule.

Material Handler

FULL TIME Manual Labor Sturgis, MI, US

Salary Range: $20.39 To $20.39 Hourly

J ob Scope

This role performs manual and clerical duties related to shipping, receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing and delivering a variety of materials, equipment and supplies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for verifying the “blenders” have the correct calcium, colorant, regrind and virgin material
  • Move material in and out as required to prevent down time on the press
  • Responsible for color changes that occur on the machines, including cleaning the system, draining the regrind, hoppers, filters and blenders
  • Responsible for checking material flow
  • Support giving breaks as needed
  • Pick up the cardboard properly dispose of
  • Clean the grinder room and the mechanical room in the Blow Mold department.
  • Manage propane tank storage and fills
  • Monitor grinders and assist with grinding purge and scrap
  • Ensure all color materials are properly labeled and put back into the racks in inventory when a color change is made.
  • Understands material codes, scale calibration and batch size and how to set the amount so it will not build up too high and interfere with the pinch tube.
  • Keep area clean between the back side of the presses and the wall or the aisle area behind the presses.
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles is highly desired
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems is highly desired
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, is highly desired
  • Basic reading and communication skills in English is required
  • Basic math skills and the ability to count is required
  • Experience using hand and power tools is highly desired
  • Strong organizational and multitasking ability
Physical Requirements

  • 8-hour, onsite schedule. Remote work is not available
