Job summary

Amcor in Pittston, ME is seeking a Material Handler to unload, warehouse, and ship customer orders. The role requires operating forklifts, maintaining safe work areas, and supporting production materials movement.

Responsibilities include ensuring correct labeling, packaging, and readiness of goods for shipment, plus proactive participation in safety and compliance training as part of our team. A strong attendance record and ability to work weekends or overtime are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Proven ability to read and understand traveler labels and packaging.
• Strong math and reading comprehension.
• Ability to operate a computer and basic software.
• Forklift license and warehouse equipment experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Unload and warehouse deliveries; pick and ship outbound orders.
• Maintain product movement between production and warehouse areas.
• Troubleshoot basic issues with wrappers and related equipment.
• Load/unload trucks per customer specifications and verify quantities.

Job Description

This position’s responsibilities include unloading and warehousing deliveries, the picking and shipping of outbound customer orders. Coordinate, support, perform and maintain all functions related to the product movement in and out of production areas. Assist with basic functions, maintenance and troubleshooting of Automatic wrapper.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Material Handler consist of, but are not limited to, the following:

• Exemplifies the Amcor Behaviors and Values at all times. Leads by example and exhibits professionalism in all areas when representing Amcor inside and outside of the plant

• Adhere to all safety rules of Amcor and the Logistics team

• Ensure that the Automated Stretch Wrappers remains working efficiently and in proper working capacity

• Continuously monitor and maintain system dunnage levels (slip sheets, wrapper film, empty pallets, etc.)

• Finish production room processes by wrapping finish goods (if applicable), and performing a Script 41 - Move on product coming directly off the wrapper and proceeding to scan goods to storage location

• Understand and abide by all set standards and guidelines within the Warehouse Department

• Load / unload and troubleshoot logistics equipment (Wrappers / Dock Locks / Garage Doors / Battery Charging Stations)

• Understands and will adhere to all ISO & SQF guidelines and policies

• Take and score highly on all yearly HR required MyDevelopment courses

• Take and score highly on all GDC Training course deemed necessary by Safety

• Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area

• Responsible for placing product in designated rows in warehouse neatly and evenly

• Supply production area with needed raw materials

• Ensure labeling and packaging are correct prior to moving product into warehouse by understanding how to read a traveler

• Communicate with warehouse and production leadership daily

• Responsible for loading trucks to customer specifications; verify quantity, product, labeling and packaging is correct

• General housekeeping of warehouse and dock areas

• Ensure all trailers are properly inspected and corresponding documentation is filled out properly prior to loading

• Use problem-solving skills to handle situations that may arise

• Any other tasks or projects as assigned

AUTHORITIES

• Cycle count accurately to correct inventory errors only after verifying with Leadership
• Pick and load outbound shipments to customers without damage in a timely manner
• Maintain a clean, organized, and damage free warehouse

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Proven ability to lead and understand all customers for each product line
• Strong organizational skills and proven ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously
• Able to work independently in a potentially isolated area of the building
• Excellent attendance record
• Excellent reading comprehension
• Competency in simple math
• Proven competency in written and verbal communication
• Ability to problem solve and execute solutions
• Ability to effectively use a computer

REQUIREMENTS

• Must have Berry Fork Truck Operating License
• Must be able to lift 30 lbs multiple times a day
• Prior DC Link experience preferred
• Ability to climb on and off a forklift safely and without assistance at a minimum of 30 times an hour
• Ability to safely operate a forklift in high traffic, low clearance areas while not posing a safety risk to others
• Must not be at risk of sudden alterations in consciousness
• Hearing sufficient to recognize and respond to shouted warnings, alarms and horns on forklifts
• Stereoptic vision of 20/40 or better and peripheral vision of 70 degrees or greater and ability to read 10–12-point font at a distance of 12-18 inches
• Ability to lift 45 pounds over shoulder height a minimum of 10 times per hour
• Able to work in extremes of heat / cold
• Able to work independently in a potentially isolated area of the building
• Verbal communication adequate to use a radio and or paging system to contact other co-workers in other areas of the complex
• Prior experience in fast-paced warehouse environment is highly preferred
• Position requires consistent attention to detail.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holiday and over-time.
• Ability to work well independently or in a team environment; displaying ability to work and deliver results in a fast-paced, performance driven environment.
