SCOPE OF POSITION:

Loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs safety inspections on required equipment. Reports any discrepancies to Plant Engineering and does not operate equipment until discrepancies are corrected.
  • Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
  • Loads and unloads materials onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand.
  • Loads materials into vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.
  • Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
  • Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases, bales, or other containers.
  • Studies receiving or shipping notices, requests for movement of raw materials and finished products, and warehousing space available to develop schedule for material handling activities.
  • Confers with supervisors of other departments to coordinate flow of materials or products.
  • Removes samples of materials, labels with identifying information, and checks materials for compliance in accordance with established Quality Assurance Standards.
  • Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products.
  • Ensures conformance to all aspects of the ISO 14001 standard and Construction Specialties’ Environmental Management System (EMS), including its environmental policy while performing job functions that may have a significant impact on the environment.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE/ EDUCATION: (Minimum Education and/or Experience required)
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six to twelve months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read work orders, identifying tags or labels, shipping notices, material movement requests, safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to confer with supervisors of other departments to develop schedule for material handling activities.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Must have basic computer skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell.

The employee must continuously (over 70% of time) lift and/or move over 25 pounds and up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
