Job summary

Sonoco Canada in Memphis, TN is seeking a Material Handler on 3rd shift (11 PM – 7 AM) to move materials safely and efficiently within the warehouse and production facilities. The role supports production with forklift operation and accurate staging of raw materials and finished goods, ensuring quality and timely deliveries.

The position requires 2+ years in manufacturing or related fields, familiarity with packaging processes, and basic computer skills for inventory tracking.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience in manufacturing, warehouse, or material handling operations preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with banders, stretch wrappers, and packaging processes.
  • Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and system transactions (Oracle preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Move materials safely and efficiently throughout the warehouse and production facility.
  • Load, unload, stage, and transport raw materials and finished goods using forklifts and related equipment.
  • Support production line operations to maintain workflow continuity and quality standards.
  • Perform Oracle system transactions to maintain traceability and inventory control.
  • Adhere to safety policies and company SOPs; participate in safety meetings and inspections.

Position: Material Handler Location: Presidents Island , Memphis TN Wage: $29.43 Shift: 3rd Shift 11PM - 7AM

The Material Handler is responsible for the safe, accurate, and efficient movement of materials throughout the warehouse and production facility. This role supports production operations by operating forklifts and other material handling equipment to load, unload, stage, and transport raw materials and finished goods. The Material Handler also assists with production line operations as needed to ensure workflow continuity and customer satisfaction.


What You’ll Be Doing:

Follow all plant and corporate safety policies, procedures, and directives to ensure safe job performance. Comply with all food safety requirements and quality standards. Maintain a safe and secure work environment by identifying and correcting unsafe conditions, participating in safety meetings, conducting inspections, and supporting accident investigations as required. Adhere to company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Sonoco's Global Code of Conduct. Safely and efficiently service production presses and related equipment. Stage unfinished metal goods according to established procedures. Remove finished products from production areas, ensuring proper identification, banding, labeling, and compliance with customer specifications. Empty scrap hoppers into designated exterior bins. Remove rejected pallets from production areas. Prepare recyclable materials for proper storage; secure materials in labeled drums and notify the supervisor or Environmental Coordinator when drums are full. Conduct pre-shift inspections and perform routine preventive maintenance checks on assigned equipment. Accurately perform Oracle system transactions to maintain traceability and proper inventory control of raw materials and finished goods. Support production line operations when required. Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience in manufacturing, warehouse, or material handling operations preferred.

  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.

  • Working knowledge of forklift operations and battery handling regulations.

  • Familiarity with banders, stretch wrappers, and packaging processes.

  • Understanding of preventive maintenance and clean-up procedures.

  • Basic computer skills for inventory tracking and system transactions (Oracle preferred).

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality standards.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Ability to meet requirements outlined in the Physical Demands Assessment.

  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, protective clothing, and safety footwear.

  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, bend, and operate equipment for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
