Job summary

B&G Foods, Inc. is seeking a Material Handler for 3rd shift in a manufacturing plant in Ankeny, IA. The role supports packaging lines, moves materials, and maintains accurate records of production and inventory in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include operating forklifts, performing changeovers, following SOPs and safety rules, and ensuring quality control on the line. Candidates must lift up to 80 lbs and obtain forklift certification.

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety regulations and maintain clean, orderly work areas.
  • Record production data accurately and timely; reconcile work orders as needed.
  • Perform changeovers and setup for production runs; read work orders/schedules.
  • Move materials from mezzanine to production lines and manage packaging line inputs.
  • Inspect incoming materials and finished product to ensure quality standards.

This position opening is available for 3rd shift starting weekly on Monday's.

Shift hours are Monday - Thursday, with overtime as required, from 3:15PM - 1:45AM.
Primary Job Responsibilities:

Attaches case identifiers to materials and identifying information to pallet; transports finished product to and from warehouse staging area.

Operates material handling equipment safely and efficiently to minimize risk to personnel and damage to inventory and equipment.

Demonstrates safe work practices to prevent on the job injuries by following all company and OSHA safety regulations.

Performs accurate and timely record keeping, including but not limited to; production recording and data collection information; direct issues components and reconciles work orders where appropriate.

Follows all standard operating procedures. Performs changeover and set up for production runs.

Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily work order.

Reads work order\schedule specifications to determine work procedures and material requirements.

Assures that material transferred and placed for use on packaging lines is accurate and timely. This includes, but is not limited to raw goods, packaging materials, containers, caps, etc.

Moves work materials from mezzanine to production line, dumps product into bin and or vibratory feeder, using pallet jacks, hand reach lift, electric hoist, electric or air barrel dumpers; operates palletizing and de-palletizing equipment.

Recycles all materials including, but not limited to, cardboard, plastic, shrink wrap, and paper.

Performs routine battery changes on forklifts.

Assists in the training of new Material Handlers and ongoing training of current employees.

Communicates material handling/processing information to coworkers in a timely manner to ensure efficient operation of the production line.

Inspects machinery/equipment and work floor conditions to ensure compliance with company safety and sanitation standards.

Visually inspects all incoming materials and outgoing product to maintain company quality standards.

Identifies daily production problems by observing machine operation, reading schedules/work orders and reporting information to appropriate supervisory staff.

Monitors and audits material inventory and informs supervisor of needs or discrepancies.

Performs other duties as assigned – not an essential function.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

Possess a high school diploma or GED.

Onsite training specific to job responsibilities.

Must obtain forklift certification.

Sign off on the Material Handler qualification checklists, lock-out tag-out, following appropriate training.

Skill in operating material moving equipment in a safe and conscientious manner.

Performs basic math operations (add, subtract, multiply, divide).

Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

Ability to work as a productive member of a team.

Ability to work at a rapid pace for continuous periods of time.

Ability to organize and work on multiple tasks concurrently.

Ability to deal effectively with persons representing widely divergent backgrounds, interests, and points of view.

Communicates effectively with plant personnel in a courteous and cooperative manner.

SQF:

Responsible for reporting any food safety and quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.

Responsible for following cGMP's

Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and good housekeeping

Ensure all food safety and quality records are completed accurately and timely

Follow all appropriate equipment cleaning procedures.

This position is in a manufacturing plant environment, works around moving mechanical parts, is exposed to airborne particles, and works around motorized vehicles.

Must be able to lift up to 80lbs
