The Material Handler is responsible for the first step in the cell manufacturing process by ensuring all materials are supplied to the production line. Using mobile equipment, machines, computers, and scanners, the material handler plays a vital role in product production.
Essential Functions:
- Receiving incoming shipments and securing products
- PDA scanning for incoming/outgoing receipts
- Placing materials in correct storage areas
- Moving materials to the production line
- Preparing finished goods for shipment (identifying, packing, loading, securing)
- Maintaining material handling equipment (pre-trip inspections, repairs)
- Assisting with inventory movement and cycle counting
- Following JIS and JIT procedures
- Operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and other machinery
- Maintaining orderly stock and material areas
- Documenting damages or quality issues and notifying supervision
- Adhering to restraint systems and dock locking procedures
- Following workplace safety regulations
- Managing weight restrictions and securing loads
- Assisting with freight documentation (BOL, packing list)
- Applying 6S Methodology
- Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Basic math and reading comprehension skills
- Ability to pass mobile equipment training and operate equipment safely
- Willingness to operate mobile equipment
- Critical thinking, problem solving, attention to detail
- Teamwork and communication skills
- Experience with forklift/mobile equipment (preferred)
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Knowledge of inventory control
Required Education & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED plus 2+ years as a Material Handler
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Collaborative work skills
- Experience with inventory, freight, materials
- Familiarity with PDA/scanners and warehouse devices
Preferred Education & Experience:
- Experience in automotive manufacturing or parts distribution
- Logistics or Supply Chain background
Working Conditions:
- 95% in climate-controlled and non-controlled areas
- Some domestic travel to other warehouses or plants
