Job summary

Akima Global Logistics is seeking a Material Coordinator to manage movement, documentation, and accountability of Army equipment at a contractor-managed turn-in site. You will coordinate with supply, warehousing, and transportation staff to ensure proper receipt, staging, and processing for disposition, while maintaining system updates and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include prioritizing items for inspection, validating documents, and data entry into GCSS-Army, DPAS, and LMP.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Experience: 3-5 years in logistics, supply, or materiel management.
  • Army experience: Prior U.S. Army or contractor experience in equipment turn-in or SSA strongly preferred.
  • Army regulations and systems familiarity with GCSS-Army, DPAS, LMP.
  • Familiarity with Army documentation and condition coding requirements.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and process Army supply documentation.
  • Ability to operate or coordinate safe use of MHE.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the receipt, staging, and movement of equipment turned in by Army units.
  • Ensure proper sequencing and prioritization of items for inspection, accountability, and storage.
  • Track status of turn-ins from initial receipt through final disposition.
  • Support high-volume, mass turn-in operations by managing workflow and resource allocation.
  • Review and validate supply documents such as DA Form 1348-1A, DD Form 200, hand receipts, and condition codes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry into Army systems such as GCSS-Army, DPAS, or LMP.
  • Maintain logs, spreadsheets, and reports for daily, weekly, and monthly activity.
  • Support audit readiness by maintaining accurate and compliant material records.
  • Coordinate with warehouse staff for storage, location management, and retrieval of equipment.
  • Ensure proper tagging, labeling, and segregation of serviceable, unserviceable, and HAZMAT items.
  • Monitor availability and safe use of material handling equipment (MHE).
  • Work with transportation staff to schedule and track incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Prepare cargo movement requests, shipping documentation, and load plans in accordance with Army and DTR standards.
  • Ensure accountability during loading, movement, and offloading of equipment.
  • Assist unit supply personnel during turn-in to resolve documentation discrepancies.
  • Serve as a liaison between contractor site staff, Army units, and the Contracting Officer's Representative (COR).
  • Provide responsive customer service to supported units while maintaining compliance.

Job description

The Material Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the movement, accountability, and documentation of Army equipment and materiel at a contractor-managed equipment turn-in site. This role ensures smooth flow of equipment through the turn-in process, compliance with Army supply regulations and contract requirements, and accurate updates to logistics systems. The Material Coordinator works closely with supply, warehousing, and transportation staff to ensure all equipment is received, classified, staged, and processed for accountability and disposition. The Material Coordinator coordinates and expedites flow of material, parts, and assemblies within or between departments in accordance with production and shipping schedules or department supervisors' priorities. In this job, the Material Coordinator reviews production schedules and confers with department supervisors to determine material required or overdue and to locate material, requisitions material and establishes delivery sequences to departments according to job order priorities and anticipated availability of material; arranges for in-plant transfer of materials to meet production schedules, and with department supervisors for repair and assembly of material and its transportation to various departments, and examines material delivered to production departments to verify if type specified. This Worker may monitor and control movement of material and parts along conveyor system, using remote-control panel board, compute amount of material needed for specific job orders, applying knowledge of product and manufacturing processes and using adding machine; compile report of quantity and type of material on hand, move or transport material from one department to another, using hand or industrial truck; may compile perpetual production records in order to locate material in process of production, using manual or computerized system, and maintain employee records.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and process Army supply documentation.
  • Ability to operate or coordinate safe use of MHE.
Additional Requirements
  • Effective communication and coordination skills with Army units and contractor staff.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Must be able to obtain Tier1/ NACI (Public trust) background eligibility.
  • Basic proficiency in the English language (reading and writing).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Must receive a favorable background check and drug testing results.
  • Must have a REAL ID.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Employees may be required to perform other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to travel within the United States as required.
  • This position requires travel up to 25% of the time.
Physical Demands & Working Environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform routine standing, walking, bending, and reaching tasks in warehouse and field environments.
  • Must also meet all physical requirements necessary to perform assigned duties, including working in extreme heat or cold, high, or low humidity, blowing sand and dust, confined spaces, heights, and other inclement weather conditions.
  • This position involves working both indoors and outdoors, periodic overtime, and exposure to heat, dust, cold, and adverse weather conditions.
