Job summary

RTX is seeking a Material Control Lab Technician to evaluate major rotating hardware, prepare samples, and document materials and processes. You will interpret blueprints and lab manuals to determine testing needs and conduct metallographic evaluation of heat treating and plasma spray coatings.

The role requires collaboration with Production Operations and Engineering to address metallurgical issues, develop root-cause actions, and maintain safe, compliant lab practices. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship required; only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, OR an Associate’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
  • No security clearance required.

Job description

What You Will Do

The CSMC organization is looking to add a Material Control Lab Technician to the team. The Material Control Lab Technician will perform evaluations of major rotating hardware for various manufacturing special processes. The Technician will be responsible for sample preparation, evaluation, disposition, and quality documentation of materials and processes. Interpretation of blueprints, specifications, procedures, and laboratory manuals to assess required testing and conformance is a critical aspect of this position. The Technician will conduct metallographic evaluation and documentation of various special manufacturing processes, primarily heat treating and plasma spray coatings. Regular interaction with Production Operations personnel as well as other Engineering disciplines will help respond to metallurgical issues and develop effective root‑cause and corrective action for manufacturing‑related issues. The Technician will be an effective team player and contributor utilizing the CORE tools and continuous improvement by maintaining EH&S and operating requirements to ensure a safe and productive working environment. The Technician will provide clear, concise, and accurate lab reports, maintain records, retain prepared samples according to procedure, monitor testing frequency of all processes, develop evaluation sheets for all tested parts, investigate various parts and process‑related problems, and be available for travel for training purposes and occasional off‑shift coverage based on business requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in metallurgical testing, evaluation, and documentation.
  • Quality and/or manufacturing, material background.
  • Familiarity with microscope evaluation techniques including brightfield, darkfield, and polarized light microscopy.
  • Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing operations.
  • Knowledge and experience with root cause investigations, corrective actions, and problem solving.
Benefits and Compensation

Salary range: 41,400USD – 72,600USD.
