Job summary

Pratt & Whitney in the United States is hiring a Material Control Lab Technician for the CSMC organization. You will evaluate major rotating hardware, prepare samples, document results, and verify conformance to specifications using blueprints and lab manuals.

Responsibilities include metallographic evaluation of heat treating and plasma spray coatings, collaborating with production and engineering teams to address issues, ensuring safe operations, and producing clear lab reports.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or AA/AS degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

  • Perform metallographic evaluation and documentation of various special manufacturing processes, primarily heat treating and plasma spray coatings.
  • Regular interaction with Production Operations personnel as well as other Engineering disciplines to help respond to metallurgical issues and develop effective root cause and corrective action for manufacturing-related issues.
  • Effective team player and contributor utilizing the CORE tools and continuous improvement by maintaining EH&S and operating requirements in order to ensure a safe and productive working environment.
  • Provide clear, concise, and accurate lab reports. Maintain records and retain prepared samples according to procedure. Monitor testing frequency of all processes.
  • Develop evaluation sheet(s) for all tested parts.
  • Investigation of various parts and process related problems.
  • Be available for travel for training purposes and occasional off-shift coverage needs based on business requirements.

What You Will Do:

The CSMC organization is looking to add a Material Control Lab Technician to the team. The Material Control Lab Technician will perform evaluations of major rotating hardware for various manufacturing special processes. The Material Control Lab Technician will be responsible for sample preparation, evaluation, disposition, and quality documentation of materials and processes. Interpretation of blueprints, specifications, procedures, and laboratory manuals to assess what testing is required and conformance to requirements is a critical aspect of this position.

Qualifications You Must Have:
  • High School diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Prior experience in the area of metallurgical testing, evaluation, and documentation.
  • Quality and/or manufacturing, material background.
  • Familiarity with microscope evaluation techniques including brightfield, darkfield, and polarized light microscopy.
  • Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing operations
  • Knowledge and experience with root cause investigations, corrective actions and problem solving.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 41,400 USD - 72,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
