Job summary

Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute seeks a highly skilled Master Utilities Maintenance Technician to support reliability and performance of facility equipment. Lead preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance across plumbing, HVAC, automotive, electric, and related trades in a complex mechanical environment.

Qualifications

• High School or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Seven years of related maintenance experience.
• Forklift certification within 6 months of employment.
• Knowledge of mechanical diagnostic tools.
• Knowledge of root cause analysis methods.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
• Occasionally hand-carry light duty equipment.
• Must be able to lift and/or move heavy weight objects.
• A well-qualified will also possess: Welding Certification; ISA Certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment such as boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, and LCW systems.
• Repair water leaks in equipment and maintain cooling systems.
• Maintain cooling tower chemical balance and low conductivity water system balance.
• Maintain building air compressors and hydraulic systems.
• Install and repair copper piping up to 4 inches with valves as needed.
• Provide cost estimates for new project installations and repairs.
• Supervise maintenance activities and guide ATs as needed.

Glimpse of the Job

The Texas A&M University Cyclotron Institute is seeking a highly skilled Master Utilities Maintenance Technician to support the ongoing reliability and performance of facility equipment and systems. This role is responsible for performing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on a wide range of machinery and infrastructure. The selected candidate will play a key leadership role in ensuring maintenance activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in a manner that restores or enhances equipment reliability. The ideal candidate will possess a broad base of hands on maintenance experience across multiple disciplines, including plumbing, HVAC, automotive systems, electric, and related trades, demonstrating the versatility needed to support the Institute's complex mechanical environment.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hire's education and experience.

Schedule

The selected candidate must be able to o ccasionally work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Due to this position's salary having all or a portion of it being funded by grants or contracts, the continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future.

Opportunities to Contribute

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on various equipment such as Cooling tower fans, tower pumps, all heat exchangers and LCW water pumps.
• Repair all water leaks in the Cyclotron and related equipment.
• Maintain cooling tower chemical balance.

• Perform maintenance on building air compressors and hydraulic systems.

• Make recommendations to avoid equipment failures.
• Provide directions to AT's as needed.
• Assist in preparation of cost estimates on new project installations .

Qualifications

• High School or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Seven years of related experience in the maintenance of equipment such as industrial power boilers, steam and/or gas turbine driven generators, or industrial or commercial chilling equipment.
• Forklift certification within 6 months of employment or when training next available through EH&S. Failure to successfully complete any of the TAMU training & development program for Master Utilities Maintenance Technicians may result in termination.
• Knowledge of mechanical diagnostic tools, which may include laser alignment and vibration data processors.
• Knowledge of root cause analyses methods.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to ensure understanding.
• Occasionally hand-carry light duty equipment.
• Must be able to ascend stairs, stand for extended periods of time, and be able to lift and/or move heavy weight objects.
• A well-qualified will also possess :
  • Welding Certification.
  • ISA Certification Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic.
