GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Master Stylist engages with guests, consulting on their hair care needs, recommending products and services, and delivering high-quality professional services focused on the guest’s total look. Supports the Experience Manager and Assistant Services Manager through performance, people, and process focus. Requires passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and product knowledge communication skills.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Master Stylist exemplifies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through the following duties and other assigned projects:

Performance

• Perform hair services such as design, cuts, color, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Achieve or surpass weekly sales goals of $1250 and meet productivity targets by providing exceptional guest service and supporting store sales and loyalty initiatives.
• Conduct product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing efforts to deliver outstanding guest experiences.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services, understanding their ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
• Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.

People

• Build guest relationships through consultations and tailored product/service recommendations.
• Serve all guests efficiently, including walk-ins.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and retail teams for a comprehensive guest experience.
• Establish professional relationships with peers and brand partners to deliver exceptional service.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Attend mandatory training and meetings for ongoing professional development.

Process

• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols, adhering to state guidelines.
• Follow established service protocols for consistent guest experiences.
• Use booking and client management systems for appointments and events.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness.
• Maintain cleanliness and operational standards throughout the store.
• Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
• Protect company assets through loss prevention practices and exceptional service.
• Perform other operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Cosmetology license required.

Experience

• Relevant prior work experience required.

Skills

• Proficiency in latest salon techniques across all service categories and ability to learn new skills.
• Proficiency with salon equipment and chemicals.
• Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
