GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Master Stylist engages with guests, consults on hair care needs, and recommends products and services. They deliver quality professional services focused on the guest’s total look and support the Experience Manager and Assistant Services Manager through performance, people, and process responsibilities. A passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and the ability to learn and communicate product knowledge are essential.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Essential Functions)

The Master Stylist champions Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values by performing the following duties and responsibilities, along with other assigned projects:

Performance

• Perform hair services such as design, cuts, color, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Meet or exceed a weekly sales goal of $1250 and productivity targets by delivering exceptional guest service and contributing to store sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink goals.
• Conduct product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance guest experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
• Maintain prompt and regular attendance.

People

• Develop guest relationships through consultations and recommendations.
• Serve all guests efficiently, including walk-ins.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and the retail team for a comprehensive guest experience.
• Establish professional relationships with peers and brand partners for collaborative guest service.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Attend mandatory training and meetings for professional development.

Process

• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures per state guidelines.
• Adhere to service protocols to ensure consistent, exceptional guest experiences.
• Use booking and clientele systems effectively.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager.
• Maintain cleanliness and operational standards of the store and salon areas.
• Follow the Ulta Beauty dress code.
• Protect company assets through loss prevention practices.
• Perform other operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Cosmetology license

Experience: Previous relevant work experience required

Skills:

• Proficiency in the latest salon techniques across categories and ability to develop skills further.
• Proficiency with equipment and chemicals used in technical work.
• Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Continuous mobility and ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
• Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and standing for long periods.
