GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Master Stylist engages with guests, consulting on hair care needs and recommending products and services. They deliver high-quality professional services focused on the guest’s overall look, supporting the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) through performance, people, and process. A passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and product knowledge are essential.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Master Stylist exemplifies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through the following duties:

Performance
  • Perform hair services including design, cuts, color, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (where applicable).
  • Achieve or surpass a weekly sales goal of $1250 and meet productivity targets for hair services, contributing to store sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink goals.
  • Conduct product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
  • Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to elevate guest experience.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services, and communicate their benefits to guests.
  • Maintain consistent attendance.
People
  • Build guest relationships through consultations and tailored recommendations.
  • Serve all guests efficiently, including walk-ins.
  • Collaborate with skin therapists and retail teams for a comprehensive guest experience.
  • Develop professional relationships with peers and brand partners for collaborative success.
  • Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
  • Attend mandatory training and meetings for professional development.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols, adhering to state guidelines.
  • Follow established service protocols for consistent guest experiences.
  • Use booking and client management systems effectively.
  • Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager.
  • Maintain cleanliness and operational standards in the salon and store areas.
  • Adhere to the dress code and loss prevention practices.
  • Perform other operational duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Cosmetology license

Experience: Relevant prior work experience required

Skills:

  • Proficiency in latest salon techniques across all service categories and ability to develop skills further.
  • Proficiency with equipment and chemicals used in services.
  • Ability to demonstrate and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to build and maintain client relationships and grow a clientele.
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Continuous mobility and physical activity during shifts.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 10 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and standing for long periods.
