GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Master Stylist engages with guests, provides consultations, and recommends products and services. They deliver high-quality professional services focused on the guest’s overall look. Supporting the Experience Manager and Assistant Services Manager, they focus on performance (sales and productivity), guest service, and adherence to operating procedures and standards. A passion for the beauty industry, excellent guest service skills, and product knowledge are essential.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions)

The Master Stylist embodies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through the following duties and responsibilities, as well as other assigned tasks:

Performance

• Perform various hair services including design, cuts, color, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Achieve or exceed a weekly sales goal of $1250 through exceptional guest service and contribute to store sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink goals.
• Conduct product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to enrich guest experience.
• Stay informed about industry trends, new products, and services, and communicate their benefits effectively to guests.
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.

People

• Build guest relationships through consultations and tailored recommendations.
• Serve all guests efficiently, including walk-ins.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and retail teams to provide comprehensive guest services.
• Develop professional relationships with peers and brand partners to deliver exceptional guest service collaboratively.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Attend mandatory training and meetings for ongoing professional development.

Process

• Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols, complying with state guidelines.
• Adhere to established service protocols to ensure consistent guest experiences.
• Use booking and client management systems effectively for scheduling and follow-up.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness.
• Maintain cleanliness and operational standards across the store, including the salon and other areas.
• Follow the Ulta Beauty dress code.
• Protect company assets through loss prevention practices and excellent guest service.
• Perform additional operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Cosmetology license required

• Relevant previous work experience required

Skills

• Proficiency in the latest salon techniques across all service categories or a strong aptitude to develop these skills.
• Ability to operate salon equipment and handle chemicals safely.
• Skill in recommending and selling professional hair care and makeup products.
• Strong communication skills.

• Capability to build and maintain a loyal client base.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Continuous mobility and ability to lift/move up to 10 lbs.
• Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and standing for long periods.
• Coordination and manipulation of objects during work shifts.
