GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Master Stylist engages with guests, consulting on hair care needs and recommending products and services. They deliver high-quality professional services focused on the guest’s overall look, supporting the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) through performance, people, and process excellence. A passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and product knowledge are essential.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Master Stylist embodies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values, performing duties such as:

Performance

• Perform hair services including cuts, color, styling, treatments, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (if applicable).
• Achieve or surpass a weekly sales goal of $1250, contributing to store targets in retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and shrink reduction.
• Conduct product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives.
• Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
• Maintain regular attendance.

People

• Develop relationships through consultations and tailored recommendations.
• Serve all guests efficiently, including walk-ins.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and retail teams for a comprehensive guest experience.
• Build professional relationships with peers and brand partners to deliver exceptional service.
• Promote guest loyalty programs and apps.
• Attend mandatory training and meetings for ongoing professional development.

Process

• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols, adhering to state guidelines.
• Follow established service protocols for consistent guest experiences.
• Use booking systems for appointments and client management.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager.
• Maintain cleanliness and operational standards in the store.
• Adhere to the dress code and loss prevention practices.
• Perform additional operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Cosmetology license required.

Experience: Prior relevant work experience required.

Skills:

• Proficiency in latest salon techniques across hair, makeup, and ear piercing services; ability to develop skills in all service categories.
• Knowledge of equipment and chemicals used in technical work.
• Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Capability to build and maintain client relationships and develop a clientele.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Mobility, standing for long periods, and lifting up to 10 lbs. during shifts.
• Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and coordination during work.

The pay range is $15.50 - $20.20/hour or service pay, based on various factors.
