GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Master Stylist engages with guests, consults on hair care needs, and recommends products and services. They deliver quality professional services focused on the guest’s overall look. They support the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) by focusing on performance, people, and process. Passion for the beauty industry, excellent guest service, and product knowledge are essential.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions)

The Master Stylist embodies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through the following duties and responsibilities, as well as other assigned tasks:

Performance

• Perform hair services including design, cuts, color, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing where applicable.
• Achieve or surpass a weekly sales goal of $1250, contributing to store goals related to retail, service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
• Conduct product demonstrations to enhance sales and guest experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
• Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services, and communicate their benefits to guests.
• Maintain consistent attendance.

People

• Develop relationships with guests through consultations and tailored recommendations.
• Serve all guests efficiently, including walk-ins.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and retail teams for a comprehensive guest experience.
• Build professional relationships with peers and brand partners to deliver outstanding service.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Attend mandatory training and meetings for ongoing professional development.

Process

• Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols, adhering to state guidelines.
• Use established service protocols for consistency.
• Utilize booking systems to schedule guests and events.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager.
• Maintain store cleanliness and operational standards.
• Follow the dress code.
• Protect company assets through loss prevention practices and excellent guest service.
• Perform additional operational tasks as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

• Cosmetology license required

Experience

• Previous relevant work experience required

Skills

• Proficiency in latest salon techniques across all service categories and ability to develop skills further.
• Ability to operate equipment and chemicals safely.
• Skill in recommending and selling professional hair care and makeup products.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain client relationships.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Mobility, lifting up to 10 lbs, bending, reaching, twisting, and standing for long periods.
