Job summary

Pinterest is seeking a Data Scientist to evolve the product by turning data into actionable insights that inspire Pinners and inform advertisers. You will quantify user behavior, measure impact, and partner with engineering and product to drive experiments.

This role involves building models, designing metrics, and communicating complex analyses to technical and non-technical teammates. US-based candidates only; base salary range and equity eligibility are provided in the posting.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, applied sciences, CS or related field.
• Fluency in SQL and a scripting language (Python or R).
• Experience solving analytical problems using ML, statistical modeling, forecasting, econometrics or related fields.
• Excellent communication to explain learnings to technical and non-technical partners.
• Strong critical thinking when working with AI-generated suggestions, validating correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Ability to connect data analysis to real business problems.

We're looking for a Data Scientist to help evolve and shape the future of our product -- inspiring Pinners and connecting them with actionable content, understanding advertisers and measuring the value Pinterest provides to them, and enabling our employees to evaluate potential product changes faster than ever before. You'll apply quantitative analysis, statistical techniques, modeling and data mining while working cross‑functionally with engineering and product partners.

What you'll do:

• Contribute to our product roadmap and mission - to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love - using data and exploratory analysis to understand user behavior and trends, and identify opportunities for product innovation.
• Design and implement core metrics that guide the team efforts and help design and evaluate A/B experiments that drive these metrics.
• Explore alternative experimentation techniques to help internal teams evaluate their ideas faster.
• Work cross‑functionally to build and communicate key insights, and collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers to help build the next experiences on Pinterest.

What we’re looking for:

• Master's degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, applied sciences, computer science or related field.
• Ability to manipulate large data sets with high dimensionality and complexity; fluency in SQL and a scripting language (Python or R)
• experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches including in the fields of Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Forecasting, Econometrics or other related fields
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain learnings to both technical and non-technical partners
• Strong critical thinking when working with AI-generated suggestions, with a clear approach to validating correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
• Ability to connect data analysis to real business problems, in order to impact business performance.

In‑Office Requirement Statement:

• This role may require you to be located near an office for in‑person collaboration, and therefore may need to be located a commutable distance from one of our Pinterest offices.
