Job summary

Acadia Healthcare's Volunteer Comprehensive Treatment Center in Chattanooga, TN, seeks a Substance Use Counselor for an Outpatient MAT Opioid Treatment Program. A Master’s degree is required.

This full-time role features early morning hours, Monday–Friday 5:00 AM–1:30 PM with rotating Saturday 5:30 AM–11:30 AM. Responsibilities include individual and group counseling, treatment planning, documentation, crisis intervention, and case management.

Qualifications

• Requires Master’s degree in social or health services field.
• Degree must be from an accredited college or university.
• Experience in addiction recovery or behavioral health settings is preferred.
• Familiarity with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) including methadone, buprenorphine, naltrexone.
• Experience conducting individual and group counseling sessions for substance use recovery.
• Knowledge of evidence-based practices such as CBT, MI, relapse prevention.
• Documentation experience for clinical notes, treatment plans, and progress updates.

Responsibilities

• Provide high quality, compassionate guidance in individual and group counseling sessions.
• Plan, oversee, facilitate and document patient recovery.
• Co-facilitate group or family sessions as needed.
• Ensure timely, clear documentation of patient care, treatment, and incidents.
• Prepare individual treatment plans for assigned patients.
• Conduct initial and follow-up assessments.
• Evaluate patient needs and referrals to other programs if needed.
• Plan for aftercare for assigned patients.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed.
• Perform case management to ensure individualized care.
• Act as liaison between referral sources and patients.

Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in social or health services field

Degree from an accredited college or university

Experience in addiction recovery or behavioral health settings

Familiarity with MAT (methadone, buprenorphine, naltrexone)

Experience counseling individuals and groups

Knowledge of CBT, MI, relapse prevention techniques

Documentation of clinical notes and treatment plans
