Job summary

The Stowers Institute for Medical Research seeks a Master Plumber to join the Operations team. This role installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems across the campus, supports renovations, and ensures code-compliant, fully operational facilities.

You will read blueprints, coordinate with contractors, and mentor maintenance staff while upholding EH&S standards. A Master Plumber license and 5+ years of experience are required, with willingness to obtain certification if needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a licensed plumber in commercial or institutional facilities.
• Master Plumber license; willingness to obtain it if not currently held.
• Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, backflow prevention, and permitting processes.
• Experience with specialty systems (lab gas, vacuum, RO/DI water) preferred.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical specifications.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, repair, and inspect plumbing systems across the campus.
• Diagnose and resolve complex plumbing issues and equipment failures.
• Perform preventive maintenance on pumps, water heaters, backflow preventers, and related equipment.
• Ensure all work complies with codes, permits, and regulatory requirements.
• Read blueprints and specifications for new installations and renovations.
• Coordinate plumbing aspects of construction projects with contractors and internal teams.
• Respond promptly to plumbing emergencies and maintain records of work.
• Mentor maintenance staff on plumbing tasks and safety.
• Enforce EH&S policies and building regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.
