Job summary

Steinway & Sons is seeking a Pattern Maker to join the Pattern Shop in our Astoria, Queens factory. You will fabricate jigs and fixtures, update and maintain all patterns, and support limited edition and custom orders for art case pianos.

You may also prototype new designs and perform case modifications as needed. The role emphasizes craftsmanship in woodworking, blueprints interpretation, and safe production methods, with a focus on quality and precision in a traditional piano manufacturing

Qualifications

• Three years of woodworking experience or equivalent craftsmanship.
• Ability to read blueprints and drawings to fabricate parts and assemblies.
• Good knowledge of mathematics and geometry.
• Proficiency with manual and power woodworking tools including setup and changes.
• Sharpening chisels and drill bits as required.
• Strong mechanical skills and dexterity.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions precisely.

Responsibilities

• Fabricate jigs, fixtures, and gauges for in-house production.
• Update, redesign, and maintain patterns, fixtures, and gauges used in production.
• Build patterns, fixtures, and gauges to improve production methods and safety.
• Provide support for limited edition, custom orders, and art case pianos.
• Fabricate small components for custom orders and art case pianos.
• Assist with case modifications and prototype building for new designs.
