Job summary

Indiana University Bloomington is seeking a skilled Masonry Specialist to join Facility Operations. The role focuses on constructing, repairing, and maintaining masonry structures across campus in Bloomington, Indiana.

A strong background in concrete, brickwork, and coatings is required, along with the ability to read plans and follow safety standards. The position emphasizes collaboration with apprentices and other trades, with duties ranging from footing layouts to finishing mortar joints.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (HSED/GED).
• 5 years of verifiable journey level experience in the masonry field.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon hire.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and/or schematics.
• Knowledge of applicable building codes, regulations or ordinances.
• Ability to operate computer.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, drawings, plans to construct, maintain, and repair masonry structures.
• Shoots grade and lays out site for footings and foundations; constructs forms, supports, and bracing systems.
• Mixes cement, sand, aggregate, additives, and water to produce concrete, grout, mortar, or slurry.
• Lays and binds building materials such as brick, tile, concrete block, using mortar.
• Repairs and finishes mortar joints between stones, bricks, or blocks of masonry wall.
