Master Maintenance Technician - Traveling - Richmond, VA

Job Overview

The Master Maintenance Technician in a healthcare environment is a highly skilled professional responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing critical building systems and medical support infrastructure to ensure a safe, compliant, and efficient environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role provides technical leadership to the maintenance team, mentors junior technicians, and serves as a subject matter expert on a wide range of facility systems. Responsibilities include overseeing preventative maintenance, managing work through CMMS software, and supporting hospital operations with prompt, quality service. This is a 1st Shift position (9am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday).

Key Responsibilities
  • Facility Maintenance and Repair: Perform diagnostics and repairs on hospital equipment and infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas systems, and emergency power.
  • Leadership and Mentoring: Lead maintenance operations, provide training and guidance to junior technicians, and ensure safety standards.
  • Preventative Maintenance Programs: Design and oversee maintenance schedules to ensure compliance and equipment reliability.
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow OSHA, NFPA, and Joint Commission standards; participate in safety audits and drills.
  • CMMS Utilization: Use CMMS software for work orders, maintenance schedules, and asset tracking.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Resolve complex building system issues to minimize downtime.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Record inspections, repairs, and equipment performance; assist with regulatory reports.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify cost-saving and efficiency opportunities.
  • Project Coordination: Support or lead facility projects, coordinating with contractors and hospital departments.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of facility maintenance experience, preferably in healthcare or a regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of hospital systems including medical gas, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to off-site locations.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Proficiency in CMMS and Microsoft Office.
  • Certifications such as CHFM, EPA Universal, Journeyman Electrician preferred.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare compliance standards.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
