Job summary

Harsco Environmental is seeking a skilled Master Heavy Equipment Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain a fleet of heavy equipment in a steel mill and industrial site environment. The role emphasizes preventive maintenance, complex troubleshooting, and ensuring continuous operation in challenging conditions.

The ideal candidate has strong experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, and electronic diagnostics, and can work independently with a focus on safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 5-7 years of experience repairing heavy equipment, construction equipment, mining equipment, or industrial mobile equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with diesel engine repair and maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret service manuals, hydraulic schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
• Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Ability to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as business needs require.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy mobile equipment.
• Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, electrical and electronic control systems, powertrain and braking components.
• Utilize diagnostic software, laptops, and testing equipment to identify faults and perform repairs.
• Perform field repairs in industrial operating areas to minimize downtime.
• Complete work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records in maintenance systems.
• Inspect equipment for safety, readiness, and compliance with standards.
• Collaborate with operations teams to identify issues and develop repair solutions.
• Follow safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and environmental regulations.
