Job summary

Ektello is seeking a Master Control Operator in Centennial, CO for a 10-hour shift, 4 days a week. This fully onsite W2 contract role involves supporting a major systems migration in 2026, handling on-air programming, and coordinating commercial integration.

Responsibilities include quality control, rehearsals, monitoring, and maintaining 150+ channel streams while ensuring flawless transitions and timely responses to on-air issues. Rotary holiday/weekend coverage may apply.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certification or Associate's degree in Media/Communications or equivalent experience.
  • Solid understanding of television production, broadcast operations, and production requirements.
  • Knowledge of news/sports/entertainment production workflows and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support on-air operations during the division’s major systems migration.
  • Handle programming quality control, rehearsals, event prep, and shadowing on-air programming.
  • Monitor and adjust on-air playlists and changes across live and taped content.
  • Own commercial integration and ensure smooth rollout of breaks.
  • Monitor 150+ channel streams for continuity and issue detection.
  • Ensure readiness of all material for on-air playout.
  • Respond quickly to on-air discrepancies and maintain situational awareness.
  • Test audio, video, captions, and picture quality to protect airwaves.
  • Collaborate with Operations Supervisors to recover from issues.
  • Communicate changes to partner production teams clearly and promptly.

Education

Job description

Position: Master Control Operator

Location: Centennial, CO

Work Type: W2 Contract

Shift: 10 hour shifts/4 times a week. Candidates will be working either morning, swing, or overnight shift. Candidates will have a variable shift and may work holidays and weekends.

Position will have an end date after six months but does have the opportunity to migrate into a full-time Master Control Operator role if one is available.

Responsibilities
  • Support current on-air operations team during the division’s major systems migration in 2026.
  • This support would include, but not limited to, programming quality control, commercial rehearsals, event preparation, shadowing on-air programming, monitoring on-air programming, and break support for other MCO’s.
  • Maintain and manipulate on-air playlists, execute program/commercial/marketing changes, and support live-event and contingency workflows using cutting-edge software like SNELL Morpheus and Amagi.
  • Take ownership of commercial integration, ensuring flawless rolling of commercial breaks during both taped and live programming.
  • Contributing to the team which collectively monitors and maintains 150+ channel streams, ensuring continuous availability and identifying any inconsistencies with keen attention to detail.
  • Guarantee the continuity of programming by meticulously confirming the readiness of every piece of material for on-air playout.
  • Act as the last line of defense for internal clients and stations, swiftly responding to any on-air discrepancies with situational awareness and quick decision-making skills.
  • Protect our airwaves by meticulously simulating the viewer experience, constantly checking for proper audio, video, captioning, and picture quality.
  • Collaborate with Operation Supervisors and work as a cohesive team to promptly recover from any on-air discrepancies.
  • Prompt and clear verbal communication with partner production teams to facilitate and execute requested changes to automation playlists.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of a High School Diploma and relevant certification or Associate's Degree in Media or Communications, or equivalent professional experience in broadcast, digital, or post production role.
  • A solid understanding of television production, broadcast operations, and/or news/sports/entertainment technical production requirements.
Additional Job Requirements
  • Must be willing to work in Centennial, CO - This position is fully onsite with no ability to work hybrid or work from home.
  • Must have unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be willing and available to work any shift including overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of a 24x7/365 operation, with possibility of schedule changes based on business needs and priorities.
  • Must be willing and able to view all content including that considered to be mature in nature, repetitive, and potentially controversial.
Desired Characteristics
  • Prior professional experience working in master control or a production control room is highly desirable but not required.
  • The ability to maintain composure and make quick decisions in high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to adapt to new and changing workflows and software implementations.
  • An acute attention to detail and a knack for cross-referencing and identifying inconsistencies, coupled with the ability to anticipate and report potential issues and concerns proactively.
  • Ability to multi-task and balance numerous priorities in a deadline-oriented environment.
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and proven experience working collaboratively with others, who is always respectful and maintains a positive attitude.
  • A punctual, hardworking, disciplined, and dependable individual.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluency or proficiency in Spanish is a definite plus.
