Job summary

Verizon is seeking a licensed HVAC professional in Virginia Beach to maintain and repair building systems, plumbing, electrical, and mechanicals across Verizon sites. You will diagnose problems, perform preventive maintenance, and work with contractors when needed.

The role requires EPA Universal Technician Certification, a valid driver’s license, and ability to lift up to 70 lbs. Typical shifts 7am–3:30pm, with potential evenings and overtime.

Qualifications

  • HVAC knowledge and building systems experience.
  • Must meet safety requirements as per OSHA and Company policy.
  • Must be able to perform physical duties including lifting up to 70 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and repair uninterruptible power systems including rectifiers, inverters, batteries, and their controls.
  • Diagnose and repair stand-by power supplies including diesel, gasoline, and other engine alternators.
  • Maintain electrical systems of 480 volts or less.
  • Assist outside contractors in overhaul and testing of UPS and electrical systems.
  • Diagnose and repair cooling system components like chillers and compressors up to 500 tons.
  • Maintain energy management control systems and perform microprocessor software changes.
  • Maintain emergency engines in critical locations; wear safety equipment.

What you’ll be doing...

You’re a licensed HVAC professional and well-rounded in other areas of building maintenance including plumbing, electrical, and even building mechanicals. If there's a maintenance problem with our buildings, you've got it covered! Your professional training and commitment to excellence will ensure that Verizon's building systems always operate a maximum efficiency.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Operating, maintaining, and repairing uninterruptible power systems including rectifiers, inverters, batteries, and their associated controls and distribution.
  • Diagnosing and repairing stand‑by power supplies including diesel, gasoline, oil and other types of engine alternators and their associated controls and distribution in facilities other than switching.
  • Maintaining, diagnosing and repairing building electrical systems of 480 volts or less.
  • Assisting outside contractors in overhaul of uninterruptible stand‑by power supplies and in testing of building electrical systems.
  • Diagnosing and repairing failures in environmental cooling system refrigeration components, i.e., chillers, compressors, and their associated controls, etc., with capacities up to 500 tons.
  • Maintaining hardware and software, diagnosing and repairing centralized energy management control systems including adding control points, reprogramming building operations through microprocessor software changes, etc.
  • Maintaining emergency engines in critical administrative locations.
  • Wears appropriate safety equipment.
  • Spends most of shift walking, standing, and/or climbing ladders.
  • Works independently with minimum supervision.
  • May be exposed to all weather conditions.
  • Works in various buildings and surroundings, such as roofs, attics, basements, offices, etc.
  • May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.
  • Working evenings, weekends, holidays and unscheduled shifts as determined by the needs of the business.
  • Work tour hours are 7am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday (hours may vary). Overtime is as needed by the business.

You’ll need to have:
  • Tests- Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company, in accordance with Company policy.
  • Must mee safety-related requirements including but not limited to those standards of safety imposed by OSHA, state agencies, manufacturers, and/or the Company.
  • Must be able to perform physical requirements of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, including, but not limited to, lifting, carrying, and maneuvering heavy equipment weighing up to 70 lbs.
  • Required to frequently work aloft, with chemicals, high voltage, high pressures, and high temperatures.
  • Ability to use hand tools, meters, and testing devices.
  • Ability to read floor plans and electric diagrams.
  • Relevant vocational or technical training or 3 or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Must hold Type Universal Technician Certification as designated by EPA regulations-40 CFR Part 82 Subpart H.
  • Must hold a a valid state driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
  • Recent experience performing maintenance and repairs on commercial HVAC equipment.
