Overview
Provides massage therapy services to pediatric residents with a variety of clinical needs ranging from rehabilitation to complex and chronic medical conditions. The practitioner will be a part of a multidisciplinary team and work alongside our pediatricians, rehabilitation experts, nurses, and Child Life team in identifying, addressing, and treating individualized needs of our residents.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates residents to determine individualized needs and treatment plan in effort to promote therapeutic goals and positive health outcomes.
- Collects case history prior to sessions with residents in order to ascertain precautions and contraindications for massage.
- Provides massage therapy sessions to referred residents either bedside, in their wheelchairs, or a designated space cleared by an MD.
- Provides services for family members, and on special occasions for staff, to promote relaxation and stress reduction.
- Must be comfortable working with and demonstrates understanding of individuals with special needs and medically complex conditions.
- Maintains a clean, hygienic, courteous, and professional work environment. Identifies environmental safety hazards and corresponding preventive/protective measures.
- Complies with HIPAA regulations and resident confidentiality.
- Maintains progress notes and other required documentation.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures relevant to performing job duties.
- Maintains updated license stipulated by the New York State regulations.
- Maintains a positive attitude and contributes to a quality work environment.
- Demonstrates compliance in Department of Health and KJMC infection control policy and procedures, especially as it relates to Covid-19.
- All other duties as requested.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years of experience working in a medical or rehabilitative setting.
- Experience working with pediatrics, especially individuals with special needs and medically fragile conditions. Minimum one (1) year related experience.
- Training in medical massage preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to read, write and interpret documents.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and/or co-workers.
- Must be trained in and knowledgeable of all Kingsbrook/Rutland policies and procedures pertaining to hazardous waste and hazardous materials and maintain qualifications applicable to assigned work.
- Other: Knowledge of all codes and demonstrate understanding.
License, Certifications:
- Must possess a valid NY State license or certification in massage therapy.
Physical Requirements:
- Position requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, reaching, and walking throughout the working day.
- Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- May be required to handle reasonably heavy weights across distances.
- May be required to handle/assist in lifting patients onto/out of exam beds/procedure stations.
- Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid, or tissue, but potential for exposure.
