Brief Description

Through home visits, the Massage Therapist provides Massage Therapy to patients under the Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Waiver. The Massage Therapist is responsible for identifying, assessing, planning, and implementing an appropriate massage care plan for waiver patients to improve muscle tone, circulation, range of motion, and address physical symptoms related to their illness. The Massage Therapist will also provide physical and emotional comfort, pain management, and restore the idea of healthy touch for children and youth dealing with painful interventions. Functions as an additional resource for other members of the palliative care team as needed via consultation and educational offerings. Supports agency’s mission to provide the highest quality care by complying with regulatory guidelines, meeting agency standards, and obtaining appropriate certification.

Essential Duties

• Uses evidence‑based treatments/modalities to address patient needs and preferences.
• Demonstrates an understanding of illness and potential complications and side effects of treatments.
• Maintains a caseload and ensures accurate and timely individualized assessment, planning, implementation, and documentation.
• Ensures each patient is assessed and that treatment given is evaluated using evidence‑based practice, including improvement of muscle tone, circulation, range of motion, and physical symptoms related to illness.
• Develops a plan of care in conjunction with patient and family.
• Acts professionally and is legally accountable for all aspects of work.
• Monitors and reviews the effectiveness of therapy given and modifies it as necessary to support patient’s treatment plan of care.
• Discusses patient suitability to receive massage therapy treatment with the referring professional and the Home Care Palliative Care Program Manager as needed.
• Participates in interdisciplinary case conferences and acts as a clinical resource for the team when needed.
• Communicates promptly with the Home Care Palliative Care Program Manager or designee as well as the multidisciplinary team as issues arise for patients, while being mindful of confidentiality issues.
• Acts as the patient’s advocate in relation to Massage Therapy.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Formal education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Currently licensed as a Massage Therapist by the State of New York.
• Minimum 3 years of experience working with medically fragile populations.
• At least 1 year of clinical experience with pediatric population, preferably involving end‑of‑life care.
