Responsibilities

• Provide essential massage treatment to help improve patient circulation and lymphatic flow; relieve pain and relax tight muscles.
• Performs health history on patients and updates prior to each session; assesses precautions/contraindications for massage.
• Collaborates with the health care team to implement a massage therapy plan of care and shares progress with the team.
• Explain procedures and applies massage techniques appropriate to client needs and preferences; inform patient and family of plan of care.
• Observe client reaction to massage and modify as necessary.
• Maintain client confidentiality and sensitivity to age and gender related issues during all interactions.
• Identifies education needs regarding massage therapy among clinical staff; develops and evaluates educational programs.
• Participates in policy development and clinical education related to massage therapy services.
• Participates in departmental quality improvement activities.
• Collaborates in research and quality improvement activities.

Summary

Provides massage therapy to the patients of Children's Medical Center of Dallas through effective and safe massage techniques, improving lymphatic flow and circulation while relaxing body muscles.

Responsibilities

• Provide essential massage treatment to help improve patient circulation and lymphatic flow, make joints more flexible, relieve pain and relax tight muscles.
• Performs health history on patients and update prior to each session; ascertains precautions/contradictions for massage prior to each session.
• Collaborates with the health care team to implement a massage therapy plan of care and maintains verbal and written communication of the patient's progress with the health care team.
• Explain procedures and applies massage techniques appropriate to client needs and preferences. Ensures the patient and family are informed of plan of care for massage therapy.
• Observe client reaction to massage and modify as necessary.
• Maintain client confidentiality and sensitivity to age and gender related issues during all client interactions and report any unusual client interactions to supervisor immediately.
• Identifies areas of education needs regarding massage therapy among clinical staff and other health care providers. Develops, presents and evaluates educational programs to meet identified needs.
• Participates in the development of policy and practices related to massage therapy and is involved in the hospital wide education regarding the implementation and clinical application of massage therapy services.
• Participates in departmental quality improvement activities.
• Collaborates in the development and implementation of research and/or quality improvement activities.

How You’ll Be Successful:

• At least 1 year experience providing massage therapy to children in a patient care capacity required
• Bi-lingual preferred

EDUCATION

• High school diploma or equivalent required

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• Licensed Massage Therapist in the State of Texas required
