Job summary

The Madison Club in La Quinta, CA, seeks an experienced Massage Therapist to deliver luxury, customized massage experiences to Members and Guests. You will conduct consultations, tailor therapies, and uphold five-star service in a serene spa environment.

Qualifications

Massage Therapist

Reports To: Spa Manager

The Madison Club is seeking a highly skilled, professional, and service-oriented Massage Therapist to provide exceptional therapeutic and wellness experiences for our Members and Guests. This role is responsible for delivering customized massage treatments while creating a relaxing, luxurious environment that reflects the Club's commitment to personalized hospitality and five-star service.

The ideal candidate is passionate about wellness, committed to clinical excellence, and enjoys building meaningful relationships with Members through exceptional care, professionalism, and attention to detail. This position requires excellent communication skills, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with the Spa team while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness, confidentiality, and guest satisfaction.

Massage Therapists are expected to provide personalized treatment recommendations, educate Members on wellness and recovery, and contribute to an exceptional overall Spa experience that encourages long-term Member relationships and retention.

Seasonal Employment Information

The Madison Club operates during the winter and spring season. This is a part-time seasonal position from October through June.

Candidates must have a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Due to the Club's busiest tournament and festival season, PTO requests during March and April are generally not approved.

Key Responsibilities
Member Experience
  • Deliver exceptional massage experiences tailored to each Member's individual needs and wellness goals.
  • Build meaningful relationships with Members by providing personalized care and maintaining detailed knowledge of their treatment preferences.
  • Welcome Members warmly and create a calm, relaxing environment from consultation through completion of each service.
  • Conduct thorough consultations to assess health history, contraindications, treatment goals, and service recommendations.
  • Educate Members on treatment benefits, wellness practices, self-care recommendations, and appropriate service frequency.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all Member health information and personal conversations.
  • Promote a positive, professional, and welcoming atmosphere that reflects the luxury standards of The Madison Club.
Therapeutic Services
  • Perform a variety of massage therapies according to Club protocols and professional licensing standards.
  • Customize each treatment to address the individual needs of Members while maintaining safety and comfort.
  • Perform services including, but not limited to:
  • Swedish Massage
  • Deep Tissue Massage
  • Sports Massage
  • Prenatal Massage
  • Hot Stone Massage
  • Reflexology
  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • Ashiatsu (if certified)
  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)
  • Myofascial Release
  • Assisted Stretch Therapy
  • Cupping Therapy
  • Thai Massage
  • Recommend enhancements and treatment upgrades that complement Member wellness goals.
  • Maintain proper body mechanics and ergonomic techniques to ensure personal longevity and injury prevention.
  • Monitor Member comfort throughout each treatment and adjust techniques as appropriate.
Spa Operations
  • Prepare treatment rooms before each appointment, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and proper setup.
  • Break down and sanitize treatment rooms following each service.
  • Maintain clean linens, treatment supplies, oils, lotions, hot towels, and equipment.
  • Follow all sanitation, infection control, and safety standards.
  • Accurately document client intake, treatment notes, and service records.
  • Maintain treatment room inventory and notify management when supplies require replenishment.
  • Ensure treatment rooms consistently reflect luxury presentation standards.
Team Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with Spa Coordinator, Spa & Locker Room Attendants, and fellow Spa Providers to ensure seamless Member experiences.
  • Communicate schedule changes, treatment recommendations, and Member preferences professionally.
  • Participate in staff meetings, ongoing education, product knowledge sessions, and Club training.
  • Support fellow therapists during busy periods and assist with operational needs whenever possible.
  • Foster a respectful, collaborative, and positive team environment.
Operational Excellence
  • Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and discretion in all Member interactions.
  • Arrive prepared and on time for scheduled appointments.
  • Maintain all state licensing requirements and continuing education.
  • Follow all Spa policies, treatment protocols, sanitation standards, and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate initiative by assisting with Spa operations between appointments.
  • Maintain treatment rooms and common areas in accordance with luxury hospitality standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Current California Massage Therapy Certification (CAMTC) required.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of professional massage therapy experience preferred in a luxury Spa, private club, resort, or wellness facility.
  • Experience providing customized therapeutic massage treatments.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, contraindications, and massage techniques.
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following modalities:
  • Swedish Massage
  • Deep Tissue Massage
  • Sports Massage
  • Prenatal Massage
  • Hot Stone Massage
  • Trigger Point Therapy
  • Reflexology
  • Exceptional customer service and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and consultation abilities.
  • Ability to educate Members on wellness and treatment recommendations.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Comfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative Spa team.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn Spa scheduling software.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Perform repetitive massage techniques requiring strength, stamina, and proper body mechanics.
  • Lift, carry, and move Spa equipment, treatment supplies, and linens up to 40 pounds.
  • Bend, reach, kneel, stretch, and perform repetitive upper body movements.
  • Maintain physical endurance to perform multiple massage treatments per shift while upholding service quality.
