GEICO is seeking an Associate Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in Massachusetts courts and other first party insurance defense. The position is with GEICO Staff Counsel located in Boston, MA.

Under general supervision, the attorney defends lawsuits against GEICO insureds and represents GEICO in subrogation and UM/UIM/PIP disputes in courts of limited or unlimited jurisdiction, with travel as required.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

• Researches laws and prepares legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Renders opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
• Prepares and handles pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations under oath.
• Defends by trial, arbitration, or mediation all matters assigned.
• Meets deadlines to respond to pleadings and correspondence.
