Job summary

Mortenson is seeking a C Civil Mass Grading General Superintendent I to lead and coordinate site work and supervise on-site teams across multiple construction projects. The role demands extensive experience with large projects, mass dirt movement, and travel with weekly schedules and potential rotations to stay on one project.

You will oversee craft labor, manage safety programs, and drive pre-construction planning, schedule maintenance, and site utilization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil, or Architectural Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 14 years construction management or related experience.
• Detail orientation for accurate and timely labor, safety, and quality reports.
• Knowledge of construction and generally accepted business practices.
• Basic understanding of Mortenson systems (labor, financial, safety, quality, scheduling, and planning).
• Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to travel up to 100%.
• Current driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the management of construction activities and task assignments with other departments to support the project schedule.
• Budget, forecast, and manage craft labor, equipment, materials, tools, and the working environment.
• Lead project scheduling, look-ahead scheduling, and site utilization planning.
• Drive pre-construction planning sessions and site meetings.
• Provide leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, and mentorship of field personnel at various ranks.
• Implement Mortenson’s Zero Injury Safety Program at project site.
• Manage open shop and union issues and relations.
• Develop relationships with customers, architects, union reps, subcontractors, and visitors.
• Lead site work and logistics improvements and efficiencies.
• Assist Field Operations Manager with monthly project reviews (budget, schedule, labor, safety, quality, equipment).
