Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Direct masonry foremen, bricklayers, masons, laborers, and subcontractor crews.
• Coordinate crew activities and monitor field productivity.
• Plan work areas, installation sequences, and equipment use to maintain schedule.
• Inspect brick, block, stone, mortar, and reinforcement for code compliance.
• Lead field safety discussions and enforce OSHA requirements.
• Coordinate deliveries of materials, equipment, and supplies.
• Read and interpret drawings, specs, addenda, and changes.
• Communicate project requirements clearly to teams and partners.
• Resolve field challenges and report progress, delays, and manpower needs.
• Maintain accurate daily reports on manpower, production, and deliveries.

About the Position

Vega Construction Company, Inc. is seeking an experienced, hands-on Masonry Superintendent to manage day-to-day field operations, masonry crews, and material coordination at assigned construction sites.

The Masonry Superintendent will ensure masonry work is completed safely, correctly, efficiently, and according to project drawings, specifications, and schedules. This position works closely with foremen, Project Managers, the Safety Coordinator, suppliers, subcontractors, and general contractors.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Direct masonry foremen, bricklayers, masons, laborers, and subcontractor crews.
• Assign daily work, coordinate crew activities, and monitor field productivity.
• Plan work areas, crew assignments, installation sequences, and equipment use to keep projects on schedule.
• Inspect brick, block, stone, mortar, grout, reinforcement, and related work for compliance with drawings, specifications, approved details, and applicable building codes.
• Lead jobsite safety discussions, inspect personal protective equipment and work practices, and enforce OSHA and company safety requirements.
• Coordinate deliveries of masonry materials, reinforcement, scaffolding, equipment, and supplies to keep crews productive.
• Read and interpret architectural and structural drawings, specifications, addenda, and approved project changes.
• Communicate project requirements and changes clearly to foremen, field crews, Project Managers, and other project partners.
• Resolve jobsite challenges and communicate progress, delays, manpower needs, material concerns, and changing conditions.
• Maintain accurate daily reports regarding manpower, production, deliveries, photographs, delays, and jobsite concerns.
• Monitor labor performance, material usage, equipment needs, and waste while supporting project budgets and completion goals.

Skills and Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of overall masonry and construction experience.
• At least 2 years of field leadership experience is required, with 2–5 years preferred in a position such as Masonry Foreman, Senior Foreman, Assistant Superintendent, Superintendent, or a comparable role.
• Blueprint Literacy: Advanced ability to read and interpret architectural and structural masonry drawings, specifications, addenda, approved details, and applicable building codes.
• Strong knowledge of brick, block, stone, mortar, grout, reinforcement, scaffolding, and masonry installation methods.
• Demonstrated ability to lead crews, establish priorities, track production, and hold team members accountable.
• Working knowledge of construction safety requirements and a strong commitment to maintaining a safe jobsite.
• Ability to coordinate manpower, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and deliveries in a fast-paced field environment.
• Sound judgment and practical problem‑solving skills.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively with Project Managers, general contractors, clients, vendors, subcontractors, and field teams.
• Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet for email, photographs, daily reports, construction plans, and project communication.
• Bilingual English and Spanish skills are preferred but not required.

Additional Position Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Ability and willingness to travel to assigned construction sites.
• Ability to work schedules required by project needs, including occasional weekends.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to safely navigate active construction sites, uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, and scaffolding.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and follow all company safety policies, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Lead masonry field operations for a growing contractor with experienced, engaged leadership.
• Work closely with Project Managers, the Safety Coordinator, foremen, and field crews to deliver successful projects.
