Job summary

The Greater Austin YMCA is seeking an enthusiastic martial arts instructor to plan and lead classes for beginners to advanced students in a safe, inclusive setting.

You will provide personalized feedback, promote fitness and teamwork, and uphold the YMCA values while supporting youth and adults across the community.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 18+ years old minimum.
  • Experience as martial arts instructor for youth and adults preferred.
  • Knowledge of boxing techniques, self-defense, and martial arts principles.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications (must obtain within 30 days).
  • Bilingual ability is a plus (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead engaging martial arts classes for all ages and skill levels.
  • Provide personalized instruction to improve technique, stamina and performance.
  • Create a safe, inclusive training environment emphasizing respect and teamwork.
  • Assist with gym maintenance and maintain a professional atmosphere.
  • Stay current with training techniques, trends, and safety guidelines.
  • Promote the YMCA's values and mission to participants and the community.
  • Lead by example and serve as a brand ambassador for the Y.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Job description

  • Plan and lead engaging and effective classes for students of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners(ages 6-adult).
  • Provide personalized instruction and feedback to help students improve their technique, stamina, and overall performance.
  • Create a safe and inclusive training environment that promotes respect, discipline, and teamwork.
  • Assist with gym maintenance and cleanliness to ensure a comfortable and professional atmosphere.
  • Develop and implement training programs andcurriculumto suit the needs of different age groups and skill levels.
  • Encourage and motivate students to set and achieve their fitness and martial arts goals.
  • Stayup to datewith the latest training techniques, trends, and safety guidelines.
  • Promotethe YMCA's character values, mission, wellness philosophy, and role in the community.
  • Lead by example the Y’s mission, vision, and values with program participants, members, staff, and guests.
  • Become an Ambassador of the Y’s work and culture by being the ultimate storyteller of who we are as an organization and brand.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
What you bring to the Y :
  • You have a high school diploma or equivalent and are a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Black Belt in Taekwondo
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Previous experience as a martial arts instructor, preferably with experience working with youth and adults.
  • Strong knowledge of boxing techniques, self-defense, and martial arts principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate a diverse group of students.
  • Demonstratedability to create and deliver dynamic and age-appropriate training sessions.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hiring).
  • Additional certifications in martial arts disciplines such asTae Kwon Do or mixed martial arts are preferred.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus.

$16 - $40 per hour, DOE
